Brand new car that's very basic or a 2 year of car with all the stuff and comfort?

Which would you choose?

Same price.

A brand new car that's very basic, no sat nav, very basic feel to it but drives well and has excellent reviews.

Or a 2 year old car same size (15k miles) also has excellent reviews. This one is more comfortable, looks much nicer inside, all the fancy sat nav stuff.

WWYD?

For reference it's Dacia Duster or Peugeot 2008.

Older one. The better spec will also help when it comes to selling it on down the line

... and you won't lose money as soon as you get it off the forecourt. They depreciate immediately.

Papergirl1968 · 21/05/2019 11:23

Or a third option - see if there's any deals on pre registered cars.
I got my Renault Clio for a few thousand pounds less that way. Registered in March, and I bought it in June from the dealership.

Karigan195 · 21/05/2019 11:25

I never buy brand new. The value plummets the minute you take it out the show room. Let others take that hit and get the cars a year or two old that are just as good and won’t reduce value so dramatically

FudgeBrownie2019 · 21/05/2019 11:35

I've had a couple of brand new cars (pre DC when nobody licked the windows/left McDeathNuggets on the back seat for 5 weeks) and wouldn't ever have brand new again. It's just pointless to spend so much more when it's going to decrease in value immediately.

Andonandonan · 21/05/2019 11:45

Definitely the 2 year old one.

sugarbum · 21/05/2019 11:50

2 year old.
just a point though. We have a Peugeot 2008. Its a bit tricky getting in the passenger side. Literally everyone bumps their head. I don't know what that's about. Its fine once your in! I love the boot and how you can flip it down to sit on.

HotChocolateLover · 21/05/2019 15:19

Definitely the older one. We recently bought a 10 year old Qashqai but it’s the top of the range model with all the mod cons. Even though it’s 10 years old it’s in great condition and I would be happy to get an older car again if it meant I could get a much nicer model.

Onesmallstepforaman · 21/05/2019 17:11

I'd buy the Dacia. Warranty will be 2/3 years, after which almost every car has lost 40-50% of new value. Also, I bought a Peugeot once, brand new. It spent much of its time being repaired. Including a leaking fuel tank week 1, and 2 resprays in the first two years. I will never own another.

smoothieooo · 21/05/2019 17:17

2 year old car. Plus, the Dacia Duster is fugly!

I've had the opposite experience to Onesmallstep in that I've had my Peugeot 206 for 7 years and it's been fantastic - only ever needed minimal work, costs £30 per year road tax and has passed it's MOT every time.

mummmy2017 · 21/05/2019 17:22

Don't forget you can purchase. A warranty for it....

KindergartenKop · 21/05/2019 21:01

Dacias are great!

BenWillbondsPants · 21/05/2019 21:11

2 year old car. No contest.

chocolatebuttonsandcheese · 21/05/2019 21:19

Which ever option is not the Dacia duster... go with that
