100% linen - dryclean only?

I have a jumpsuit in 100% linen. It says dry clean only. Surely a hand wash would be ok? I have no idea why it would be dry clean only. Any thoughts?

That’s a bit odd. I’ve never had anything 100% linen that can’t be washed normally. How much did it cost? I’m the sort that will wash anything, even if it says dry clean only, either on a wool/gentle machine cycle or by hand but can see why you’d be a bit concerned if it cost a bomb.

I wash all linen clothing whether it’s 100% or mixed fibres on a gentle wash at 30 degrees.

Never has any problems.

I always use Fairy.

I have heard that sometimes some companies just don’t test the washing process and therefore slap dry clean only in order to avoid liability. It might be that as I have never had issues with linen before. It was relatively expensive and I do love it but at the same time don’t want to dry clean if I don’t have to!

People used linen shirts and sheets for years before dry cleaning was invented.

It's not the washing, but the ironing that could be tricky - especially on a jumpsuit. 100% linen will crease easily and you'll need to use a steam iron or damp down the garment to get all the creases out.

Yes, if it needs ironing I’d do it while it’s still slightly damp. the only things I do iron are my linen items

Yes 30 degrees, on its own or only with other linen items. Fabric conditioner and a higher water level if your machine does that.
