Recommend a not too expensive vacuum cleaner?

Any recommendations anybody?

Specifications are:

I have wood/laminate floors so the Henry style ones are better for me (but I had a Henry once and hated the little fucker so not an actual Henry)

No pets so don’t need to worry about pet hair

Good suction

Not extortionate - I am a single mum so budget is limited.

I have a Henry and it’s better than the Shark and Dyson I’ve had previously.

Jacqattacq · 20/05/2019 19:51

Henry seems to suck well enough but the little red cock falls over at every opportunity, gets stuck round corners and nearly breaks my fingers when they get stuck under his handle. I have never wanted to kick a household applicable more.

Shark. Changed my relationship with hoovering! About 70 quid

Shark!

Zofloramummy · 20/05/2019 19:59

Single mum I also love my shark! I bought direct from them online with a repayment plan of £25 a month which really helped with budgeting.

Yeh, he's a smug little fucker but seems to be indestructible.

Ooh, tell me why sharks are so good then - I’m intrigued.

Watching!

I find the suction is really good. It’s simple to use, I love the fact it comes apart for the stairs. It hoovers up anything big and small. Really easy to empty. Mine has a headlight (I may have hoovered in the dark just to enjoy this feature Grin). Also the switch between flooring types is on the handle. It’s obviously been designed for ease of use.

I'm not a gadget snob... previously had hoover machines. Currently have a shark. I do like it. However, you have to empty it a lot. And I'm not sure it is 2 or 3 times better than my previous machines....but the cost was at least 3 times the cost of those. So if budget is a big factor don't get swayed by the comments.

Zofloramummy · 20/05/2019 20:09

Oh and I bought the super slim long attachment and I can hoover underneath my oven and fridge!!

Yes I know I am rather sad Blush

I had a Dyson previously, it was heavy, it broke frequently, the suction was rubbish, it had a smaller waste canister and it was more expensive than the shark. Depends on the model I guess.

I would head out to your local Curry’s and try them out.

bobstersmum · 20/05/2019 20:13

If you buy a Dyson you won't need to buy another vacuum for a long long time and the aftercare is really good, I've had loads of free parts from them over the years!

yermawyabas · 20/05/2019 20:14

My shark is way better than my Henry and so much lighter.

Jacqattacq · 20/05/2019 22:02

Hmm, will a Shark damage my floors? I’ve always assumed that an upright vacuum cleaner was for carpets only and would scratch them.

I have hetty, never falls over

Waitingtomove · 20/05/2019 22:26

Please don’t buy a Dyson, I had a few models for years but the most recent one I had was awful, had them out so many times to try and fix it I finally had enough and brought a shark, so much better!

hellenbackagen · 20/05/2019 23:15

Which shark do people love

Kathyhynes · 21/05/2019 06:54

Hi there we recently bought a Hoover from studio it's a stick hoover for about £20 it's fantastic for wood and laminate floors. My sister in law and stepdaughter have one too and they love it.

Stunn · 21/05/2019 07:00

Shark lift away. Doesn't damage hard floors. Mad suction. Fab.

ProperVexed · 21/05/2019 07:08

I bought an upright Vax from Argos when they had an offer on so it was about £100. It's fantastic! The suck is so hard it gets stuck to the kitchen Lino on one setting. When it dies I shall buy another.
