Have you changed from normal double glazing to triple or better double glazing and did it make a difference to noise?

I live on a village high st and in the evening the road noise annoys me with loads of cars up and down the road and am struggling to hear the tv over them at times.

No idea what the thickness of the gap is but the glazing is at least 20 years old. I was wondering about triple glazing to reduce the road noise but have also read about double glazing with a bigger than usual gap being good for noise reduction.

Was just wondering if anyone had tried it and seen an improve, ent?

I have acoustic glass in my double glazing units, I don’t have any issues with external noise at all. Sadly I don’t have the equivalent for my party walls..

Have just been googling about acoustic glass, never heard of it before. Have been looking st the websites of local upvc firms and nobody mentions it so not sure if they do it or I need a specialist firm. Will make enquiries, thanks.

We have acoustic glass, it’s also referred to as laminated glass. We were told it was more effective than triple glazing for sound.

Yes, a lot of websites are saying it's better than triple so want acoustic glass now.

I don't know if we had super duper double glazing, but we had our really old windows replaced last year. The difference is amazing!

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/05/2019 20:38

I'm just nervous of spending a lot of money and there been no difference! If it makes a difference I will happily pay. It could just be that the current stuff is old and shit quality.

We've changed ours recently for different reasons and while it is definitely quieter when they are shut, when they are open you notice the noise more because of the contrast.

I haven't opened my living room windows once in 18years! Thankfully the back of the house is lovely and quiet and we can open the windows there.

We swapped double to triple glazing in our front bedroom, but I have to say I didn't notice any difference with noise .

Definitely moving away from the idea of triple glazing now to better double glazing with acoustic glass or possibly secondary glazing over the current unit. But am also thinking of shutters instead of current curtains, just for aesthetics, not noise reduction. Not sure I could have both!
