What happens if you are taken ill when out with a child?

I was out in town this morning with my DS(4) and I came over feeling really hot, dizzy and faint (I’m 6 months pregnant).

I managed to get to the cafe and have a cold sugary drink which helped me feel better enough to get home, but now I can’t help wondering: what happens to your child if you are taken ill whilst out and about whilst in sole charge of said child? If I had actually collapsed and an ambulance was called, would they just bring DS with me? And look after him at the hospital until someone else could come and get him? Or would some sort of child services person be called to take him temporarily?!
I really have no idea! Has this happened to anyone?

iPhones have a section to place emergency details in that can be accessed without the need of the passcode.

@Crunchymum yes, by that point (after waiting about 4 hours for the ambulance) they had managed to get hold of me and I got hold of dh and a friend who both started to make their way there with staff caring for them until someone got there. Staff played with them and fed them ice cream. Children were chuffed to bits! Though worried about their grandmother.

DH dislocated his shoulder whilst in the swimming pool with my 2DC's who were quite young (5 and 7?)
Swimming pool staff helped them get dry and dressed and they went in the ambulance with DH. Who was conscious so could phone me, I met them at the hospital.

I’ve just filled in my medical info section that can be accessed without unlocking phone. Also, I have fingerprint id to log in so I guess someone at hospital could stick my thumb on it if needed?! I feel much more prepared and slightly embarrassed I never considered it before Blush

Good thread OP! This has terrified me but reassured me at the same time!

I've just put an ICE contact on my phone.

I’ve just put an ICE number on my iPhone - there’s now a ‘medical info’ heading that comes up on the lock screen. There was a bit where I could put medical notes - I put in DD’s date of birth and noted she has ASD and limited communication.

Thanks OP for starting thread - it’s something I should have done ages ago Smile
