Hello, I've been trying to do couch to 5k but its really hurting my knees, I don't know if its because I've just got some cheap supermarket trainers. Can anyone recommend a good pair of running trainers or somewhere I can get good advise?

A decent running shop should be able to look at how you run and advise whether you need neutral trainers or additional support. They’re not always the cheapest to buy from but you tend to get great advice and service.

A proper pair of trainers will definitely help. I can also tell when I’m wearing mine down because my knees start hurting!

Go to an independent running shop who analyse your feet and gait. I have very narrow feet and the shoes they recommended saw me complete a marathon with no blisters or joint pain.

Thank you there are a couple of independent shops near me that I can try.

Independent running shop or our branch of Cotswold outdoors has a running shop too with gait analysis. But a decent pair will cost in excess of £100. If this isn't an option sports direct do sell decent ones for £50 approx but no help obviously

Do you have an Up & Running in your area? I went there and they do gait analysis on a treadmill (with video). They were really helpful and i could a really good pair of trainers for £80.

I would also recommend going to an independent shop to have a brand or model recommended - then if money is tight, look online as you will often find last years model/colour scheme cheaper.

Yeah you really should not even attempt running without proper footwear, you can seriously do some damage. I wear Nike Roshe, they’re fantastic and not overly expensive.

I know outsho TBH I got back into fitness at the beginning of this year after a break for various reasons, I've tried a few different things and the trainers I have are fine for them, but I've really enjoyed running and swimming and want to focus more on these activities but in a way that won't cause injury and set me back. So I think its time to start properly investing in my fitness.

I went and had a gait analysis at DW of all places. I brought some Asics gel exalt 5 trainers. I plan to start again tomorrow so hopefully I'll get some better results
