Heart palpitations, dizziness, what to do?

JuleeCruseship · 20/05/2019 12:30

For the past two days I've been having weird palpitations, accompanied by breathlessness and feeling lightheaded. My chest generally feels quite tight and it's hard to catch my breath.

I rang to make a GP appointment but there isn't one for 5 weeks.

Should I call out of hours this evening, or what? It does feel a bit worrying as I feel so not-right. It's not little unnoticeable palpitations to me.

I'm 35, overweight but not amazingly so.

I've had panic attacks before and they don't feel like this. I think that's partly my reluctance to go to A&E - I have had mental health problems in the past and worried they will dismiss me/belittle me for it. It could be anxiety or something, but I don't feel anxious iyswim, beyond feeling a bit weirded out by this. I do have some medical experience at work and I have checked my pulse and it is very high - my resting heart beat has been 110-115. Again though could be cos I'm weirded out!

I too get this. I happened to be experiencing it on the day I had a appointment for my b12 jab with the nurse. They did a ecg and it showed I was tachycardic but other than that. I had put it down to my b12 deficiency as I know palpitations are a symptom but I did feel a bit tight chested with it and my right arm ached-so thought I'd be a bit stupid not to mention it whilst at the doctors. They also wanted me to have a blood test but that was all normal apparently. I get very puffed out from doing a simple task and can get a bit tight with it. She did talk about possibly referring me to a cardiologist.I already take Atenolol for a fast heartbeat anyway. Not sure if it's from my deficiencies or conditions or something else, Worrying when you experience it.

Why are you prioritising your work over your health? Make an excuse and go to A/E.

Greetings from A&E and possibly a fairly long wait. I feel like a total dick for being here!

Could be anything from adult onset asthma, to anaemia, to thyroid problems to god knows what. At least you’re in A and E. Hope they see you quickly.

IncognitaIgnorama · 20/05/2019 19:03

Fingers crossed for you, OP

FoxSquadKitten · 20/05/2019 19:08

I feel like a total dick for being here!

Better to be safe than sorry. Hope you're not waiting too long.

JuleeCruseship · 20/05/2019 19:30

Thanks, just got some bloods there and a very quick heart thing, now back to waiting.

OP posts:
JuleeCruseship · 20/05/2019 19:36

If it is mega anxiety, what do I do? I can't stop my life!

OP posts:
womanhuman · 20/05/2019 19:38

Glad you went, feeling like a dick or not. Hope it all turns out to be nothing.

FoxSquadKitten · 20/05/2019 19:48

If it's anxiety you'll have to learn to deal with it. Bet it will be low iron. Fingers crossed it's nothing else 🤞

JuleeCruseship · 20/05/2019 19:48

They're bloody quick here! I've just had my blood pressure done which was fine but my heart rate was 110 beats per minute. So waiting for an ECG now.

Sorry for the updating, I'm bored, anonymous and don't want to do that "check into a&e" on Facebook thing.

OP posts:
FoxSquadKitten · 20/05/2019 19:50

Heart rate could just be that you're worried.
Have you had anything like this before? Are you still feeling dizzy/weird?

ReleaseTheBats · 20/05/2019 19:50

Goodness, they are quick. Hope it's all fine - well worth getting yourself checked over.

Loopytiles · 20/05/2019 19:52

Glad you’re at A&E. Hope you get a thorough check up and don’t have to wait too long.

I have experienced what I think was discrimination because of my MH: I had chest pains and eventually saw my GP, who noted that I had an anxiety condition and, with no checks, said it was probably that. Despite me v v rarely visiting the GP, my MH issue being good at that time, and never having been around health anxiety. It was just a muscle strain in my chest wall, but it upset me and still feels like a mental barrier to seeking advice, eg in circumstances like yours.

cleanhousewastedlife · 20/05/2019 19:53

You've done the right thing. You haven't wasted anyone's time.
I was in A&E not that long ago and the waiting is not fun. Keep an eye on your phone battery though! Good luck for the results.

JuleeCruseship · 20/05/2019 19:53

My heart has quite fast for 2 days. It has felt like it's pounding out of my chest then skipping around. Yes, still feeling dizzy and weird and knackered too.

No, never had anything like this before.

JuleeCruseship · 20/05/2019 19:54

I actually went en route home for my charging cables Blush I've nicked my husband's portable battery pack.

OP posts:
JuleeCruseship · 20/05/2019 19:56

Loopytiles, I'm sorry you experienced that and I totally understand. I have self harm scars - they're 12 years old now but are always noted despite being as relavant now as a teenage broken leg! It does stop me wanting to seek medical help for anything.

Littlechocola · 20/05/2019 19:58

Well done for going op.
Hope everything is okay.

BumbleBeeWineGlass · 20/05/2019 20:01

Good luck OP - I'm waiting to see a cardiologist for repeated episodes of SOB and pain, tachycardia and a feeling of painful air bubbles )like when you need to burp but can't) In my chest/throat and jaw/shoulder. It's scary but I can't stop my life everytime it happens now.

Loopytiles · 20/05/2019 20:04

Thank you Julee. It’s good that despite hurdles like your past experiences with doctors that you have gone to be seen. Flowers

FoxSquadKitten · 20/05/2019 20:06

If your heart's been beating that fast for 2 days you're going to feel tired 😩
Hopefully they get to the bottom of it soon 💐

Southwest12 · 20/05/2019 20:11

Glad you’ve gone to A&E. Being able to work is never a good indication, I went to work twice with acute renal failure. I felt like I was dying but still went to work.

JuleeCruseship · 20/05/2019 20:29

Hope they get to the bottom of it BumbleBeeWineGlass.

Southwest12, that's hardcore!

EastEnders is on here, haven't watched it in years, got quite drawn in!
