Did Year 2 have Sats last week?!

I have a child in year 2 and have heard absolutely nothing about it. Speaking to my sil this weekend to be told that her ds in year 2 had sats last week, children were coming out of school in tears due to stress, they’d had hours of homework each week for months etc. I didn’t know anything about it Blush. Ds claims he’s never heard of sats and doesn’t remember doing any quizzes last week (he also doesn’t remember what he’s had for breakfast so he’s not overly reliable).

Did all schools do them? Am I an awful person for having had no bloody idea about it at all?

Our Yr 2s are starting them tomorrow across the week. Our school keeps them very low key, so I’m not surprised you don’t know much about it.

It was y6 sats last week. Our local schools (s.yorks) start Y2 sats this week.

Our school did them the week before last. They are very low key, the kids didn’t even know what they were doing

For y2 there is a range of time for them to be done.
The tests should be 'low key'. The results are used to 'inform the teacher assessment' - which is what you will be told about.

If 6&7 yos are coming out of school in tears from stress then the school is doing something very wrong imo.

My DD did 2 last week and 2 the week before. They are not on set days like the year 6 SATs, her teacher told us they would be anytime in May. So it’s possible that your DS hasn’t done them yet or he doesn’t know that he has.

They are supposed to be very low key and nothing to worry about AT ALL. Your SILs school sounds ridiculous. I dread to think what they are like for the year 6 SATs if they are putting so much pressure on Year 2.

Mine did them the week before Yr 6 sats. They were secret spy missions and seemed low key and fun

My dcs school did year 6 sats last week, year 2 this week

Neighneigh · 19/05/2019 19:43

I didn't realise mine had done his until I asked if he'd done any tests recently and he said nope, oh but we did do this brilliant Special Agent Training quiz. His quite awesome teacher had disguised it all as a spy game.

DD’s school did them last week-same week as the y6 SATs. There’s not a set week for them though.

Guylian2019 · 19/05/2019 19:48

Anytime in May. Most Y2 kids barely notice to be honest but may remember getting juice and a biscuit more often than normal!

My ds had them last week. No stress on the kids at all. He came out each day saying they’d done a booklet to check if they remembered things they been taught. Hasn’t used the words SATS or test at all. I think most schools keep the yr2 ones pretty low key don’t they? We did have a parents meeting about it where they were very clear about not really telling the kids what they were doing.

Our year 2s have been doing SATS for the past three weeks and have another week to go.

We do them over the month, just for an hour each morning and not always everyone together as we have some children who can't cope in a full class, and the rooms are not really big enough to separate them all enough. So we have some smaller groups and some tiny groups. They do two sessions a week iirr with a catch up session for when required.
The rest are doing various enrichment activities in that session.

My DS in Y2 had his last week. We were told earlier in the year that It would be at some point in May and they would let us know when they were done. The school keep it low key and don't put any pressure on so the kids don't get stressed out.
