I’m English, not living near England/wales border. I realise I don’t know much about Welsh politics. Are there any podcasts or radio programmes you could recommend?

(I started listening to a show about NI politics after the DUP got power in Westminster and MNetters from there challenged me that I only became interested when it affected me.)

Bump - is there a board I should post this to rather than Chat?

You could try and tune into Radio Wales/Cymru I suppose. Welsh media isn't in a great state. I read a blog called Jac o the North which is mildly interesting if a little conspiracy theory in tone.

Radio Wales is good especially the breakfast and drivetime shows. Hang around for 11am Wyn Evans (Mr Go Compare) you won't learn much about Welsh politics but he's really funny.

Thanks. I’ll try Radio Wales. Where do most people get local news - is it social media or newspapers?

Twitter is pretty good for Welsh political debate, but I guess it depends if you know who to follow in the first place.

If you want North Wales news look at The Leader, Daily Post and Deeside.com

I tend to read the politics section of the Mail website though I wouldn't say it was particularly amazing.

That should say WESTERN mail!! and the link should be this - not sure what I did there

I have to say Welsh politics is rather more moderate than Northern Ireland (!). Labour have been the largest single party in all the elections since devolution, but have always either formed a coalition government (with either Plaid or LDs) or been a minority government. (Elections are by proportional representation.)

Really I’m interested normal everyday stuff. So often I listen/watch the news and an interesting story say on education or health will have a little tag at the start or end saying that the law/rules are different in Wales/Scotland/NI. It’s rarer the story is the other way round so I don’t get to know about stuff going better or worse in Wales. For example I know SATs don’t happen in Wales, but don’t know whether parents in Wales would like that to change or there are other controversial issues in education there.

I think the established news media in Wales is pitiful right now and lacks in depth analysis. I find www.iwa.wales/click/ and nation.cymru/ useful and as a PP said there is lots of interesting debate on Twitter.

Honestly you won't find much about Wales in the media at all. You could watch BBC Wales news on freeview perhaps?
