What do you have on your kitchen windows and window sills?

I have two large windows with long wide sills.

I've taken the nets down to wash them, but this needs doing frustratingly frequently. I have decluttered the sills as well and they look awfully bare.

I do a lot of cooking on the hob and everything gets really greasy/ faded because they are really sunny spots.

I also cannot keep plants alive indoors.

What do you have on your window sills and how are your windows dressed?

No nets. Roller blinds made of mattress ticking. Succulents, which are unkillable.

Ces6 · 19/05/2019 15:51

Nothing as all my sills are outside!

Finfintytint · 19/05/2019 15:54

Kitchen window - no dressing as not overlooked. A few succulents and a large jar for utensils.
My other windows are only a few inches from the floor and my dog likes to sit in one window so I don’t have any ornaments, plants etc.

Three glass vases and the penny pot.

Window has a roller blind that only gets pulled half way down mostly, it's to stop being blinded when washing up in the evenings.

Strugglingtodomybest · 19/05/2019 15:57

No window dressing, a cactus, a geranium, 2 gerba, a couple of succulents, loads of 'interesting' pottery, gifts from the kids and fairy liquid!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 19/05/2019 15:58

Blinds at the windows and patio doors. A pepper plant is currently being grown on , ready to go outside. A couple of ornaments.

Overseasmom100 · 19/05/2019 16:02

Pull down blind
Orchid on sill and herb pot

happyhillock · 19/05/2019 16:07

Have blinds on all the window's, nothing on any window sills

Tumblefluff · 19/05/2019 16:09

Succulents- fabulous. Not sure why I've never thought of this. I'm forever picking up the dead leaves remains of plants I forget to water/ overwater that relatives kindly gift me.

We aren't overlooked as such but the windows are visible due to the higher position of our house and the lower positions of our immediate neighbours. Our garden wall is 3ft high in our garden but 6ft high in the next garden.

Tell me about your roller blinds. How do you keep these clean?

3 cream china jugs, a blue jug and a cornishware jug, couple of pots of herbs. Not overlooked and no nets or curtains.

Zoflorabore · 19/05/2019 16:57

My window is dressed and my kitchen is in the front which can be both a blessing and a curse.
I wipe down my windowsill twice a day and can't stand splashes etc on it from the sink.

I have a big vase of pink lilies and a glass sweetie jar with tea lights in for my burners and 2 cacti.
I can't stand clutter though but change it around now and again.

horizontalis · 19/05/2019 16:59

Net curtains gathered into an untidy bunch in the middle. Currently a geranium, a couple of succulents, a cork mat, a little glass vase with fuschia cuttings in it , an old coffee jar full of paintbrushes and a 90% empty bottle of MiracleGro.

And DH's watch as he's just done the washing up.

BishopBrennansArse · 19/05/2019 16:59

Knife block, aloe Vera plant plus baby aloes and DH dumps crap on there annoyingly regularly too

FiremanKing · 19/05/2019 17:02

A dead fly.

TapasForTwo · 19/05/2019 17:02

Roller blind, a pot of basil and a pot of coriander. I hate cluttered windows and window sills.

60secondfacetimer · 19/05/2019 17:02

I have a blind up but I never really put it down. I have some flowers and a picture on the window sill.

missmouse101 · 19/05/2019 17:03

No plants at all. I cannot stand dusty pots of mud about the house. I just have 3 lovely old fashioned pottery bottles on the kitchen windowsill and nothing else.

BoogleMcGroogle · 19/05/2019 17:03

I have a striped roller blind. On the sill ( which I'm looking at now) is: A cream China cafetière, a blue China water jug ( shaped like a fish), parsley, thyme, mint, a le creuset jar for dishwater tablets, a tube of hand cream and a big wine glass looking sadly empty 🙂. The rest of my house is quite minimalist, but I love the crazy herbiness.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 19/05/2019 17:05

Roller blind, small picture frame, aloe Vera plant and candle.

FlyingMonkeys · 19/05/2019 17:09

A cluttered selection of seedlings awaiting growth before transplant to the allotment 🙄 - outside of growing season I have my vertical blinds pulled to.

molemonkey · 19/05/2019 17:18

We have blinds and just one of those old fashioned scales on one of the window sills. On the other above the sink is a small Greek bowl that I put my wedding rings in when washing up and a vase when it's not in use in hall way

FadedRed · 19/05/2019 17:21

Roller blind, occasionally pulled down a little to block the evening sun burning my retina’s.
On the window sill is a cactus that thrives on neglect, a little glass ring holder thingy, a radio, and some pretty pieces of crystal rock that have found a home there. And a small plastic elephant....not sure where that came from

EdWinchester · 19/05/2019 17:24

Do people still have nets?

We have nothing on any downstairs windows and sills are usually clear, but today the kitchen window has a little vase with flowers from the garden.

weegiemum · 19/05/2019 18:31

Kitchen has windows front (in dining area) and rear (at sink). Front window has curtains (pretty much never closed) still has plants (esp dh's very coddled bonsai tree which I am afraid to touch in case I kill it!) and long china plates with candles (which can be moved to the table).

Back sill (no dressing) has succulents and cacti, the fairy liquid and a pot of paintbrushes (dd1 is an art student!).

I like busy windowsills. Makes the place feel cosy.
