Parents with children starting primary in September...

Just wondering how many of you with children due to start primary in September have had any contact from your chosen school yet? I haven't heard anything from ours yet and wasn't too worried. I saw some of the nursery mums at a party today (none of their children are going to the same school as my DS) and they have all had forms to fill in and invitations to open evenings etc.

Am going to ring the school on Monday just to check I haven't missed something but just thought I'd see what the general consensus is on here.

Yes. We’ve had a letter to open evening and an open day for DS2 to spend the afternoon in the reception class.

I wouldn’t worry if you haven’t heard though - sats finished last week so I bet it’s on their to do list now they are out of the way.

CheerfulMuddler · 18/05/2019 20:19

Yep, we had a letter last week.

trilbydoll · 18/05/2019 20:20

We had to take some ID to school to prove address and dd's date of birth and in exchange got given a letter with the date of the new parents meeting one evening in June. Did you not have to do anything to confirm you wanted the place?

Nothing here yet. Although the preschool DC attends is within the primary school she'll be attending.

Thanks for the quick replies. Looks like ours is a bit behind then!!

@trilbydoll we just had to accept the place on an online portal through the local authority so have had no direct contact with the school at all.

We had a letter today so I wouldn’t be hugely worried. We didn’t even have to accept the place with the local authority- it’s was a unless you decline it the place is yours

Nothing from our school. But DD is my fourth child to go there and is currently at the nursery attached to the primary. I know this is normal and that letters go our some time in June usually, with visits and parents meetings in July.

SimonJT · 18/05/2019 20:30

I have, but my son was a LAC child so I have already had a few meetings.

bookworm14 · 18/05/2019 20:31

We’ve had a booklet about uniform etc and various forms to sign, but no open day invitation yet.

Soubriquet · 18/05/2019 20:35

Yes

I had a parents evening thurs just gone where I was given a folder in which my ds has morning or afternoon session.

I had to send in paperwork 3 weeks earlier stating my preference.

I now have 3 sessions over the next two months for ds to get acquainted.

He also has a teddy bears picnic

Fatted · 18/05/2019 20:35

Letters and emails from our school went out this week. Parents have a meeting to go to in June and kids have a day to visit the school in July. Not bothering with the parents meeting because it's in works time and neither DH or I can get the time off. We went to it with my 6YO, and 4YO DS is already in nursery at the school so we know everything covered in it already.

Soubriquet · 18/05/2019 20:36

Ds will be my second child to go to this school

SellFridges · 18/05/2019 20:37

Ours arrived yesterday. I would only worry if I didn’t hear anything after half term.

Passthecherrycoke · 18/05/2019 20:39

Yes we had a letter with a series of dates (open evening meet the teacher, play and stay and start dates) and school policies etc. I was quite surprised though as I thought they would settle down the additional movements with second round/ waiting lists before doing a full mail out. So maybe you’re school is waiting?

TeenTimesTwo · 18/05/2019 20:45

The schools will have been busy this week with y6 SATs.
Once SATs are done, attention will switch. My DD's primary didn't tend to send stuff out until the week after half term.

Also 'resigning deadline' is 1st June (or something) so HTs can't formally set teachers for next term until after then. Much better to be told 'the teacher will be Mrs Brown' than being told it is going to be Miss Smith and then 3 weeks later 'Miss Smith is leaving'.

liitlepenguin · 18/05/2019 20:58

We had ours today and the forms have to be returned by Monday Hmm

grumpypug · 18/05/2019 20:58

I'm a reception teacher. Our letters to parents of new children are sent just before half term. No point doing anything before then as there's often children coming and going due to appeals, house moves etc. We begin our new starter events at the end of June.

happypotamus · 18/05/2019 21:04

No, nothing. But I already have a DC at the school and know it gives short notice for things. I also discovered the date to come in for a meeting and bring DD to meet the teacher on the calendar on the school website while I was looking for something else. It's not much use for parents who don't already have a DC there though, as they won't find this date hidden on the website and might not have enough notice to get the day off work (I am working that day and am desperately trying to find someone to swap shifts with me, I need at least 3 months notice to request a day off work). They also won't know that from September the school will close after lunch on Fridays, which is going to be a problem for a lot of people. The school has not informed parents of new starters of this, I only know because of having DC1 there already.

Wifeofapostie · 18/05/2019 21:10

I got a letter only today. Hasn’t got much info on and it says they’ll write again in June.

Duckswaddle · 18/05/2019 21:10

I was just thinking about this today, we haven’t had anything yet. Will probably phone on Monday just to double check I’m not missing anything!

Justajot · 18/05/2019 21:15

There is a second round of applications with offers on 13 May (at least in my area). I think many schools hold out until then to communicate as they'd have to do it twice otherwise.

The frustrating thing with our school is that they seem to do a different pattern of no school and half days each year, so I have no idea what date they start. With two working parents, it's a bit of a nightmare.

maxiflump1 · 20/05/2019 12:36

Thanks all for the replies. Rang the school today and they are sending out the induction packs today so panic over!
