Hi there,

The family and I currently live in Hertfordshire. Unfortunately, we can't afford to buy in this area and are considering moving further a field. We are considering an hour or two from herts and somewhere countrysideish.

I have two children 12 and 7 so would need to change their schools too. I'd also need a new job.

I am so anxiety ridden thinking about where to start. We haven't even got an area to move to in mind yet. But I'd like to start putting a plan together.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Where did you start? And reccommendations on areas would be great.

Thanks in advance

Lx

The first thing you obviously want to consider is area. what about Worthing, which is a 2hour drive from Hertfordshire? in terms of schools, the nearest secondary is worthing high which is rated 'good' by ofsted, and primary is chesswood junior. You are near the beach, and there are lots of clubs for the kids such as a local football team and a gymnastics club. RE your job, it may be worth (depending on what type of job you do) asking your employer if they know of any positions near the area you chose. all the best x

Thanks for reply. Hadn't consider worthing and seems house prices are within our budget so I'll check it out. Unfortunately, I work for a small independent charity so I wouldn't be able to keep my job.

You wouldn't need to go much further north to get a lot more for your budget :) have you thought about maybe rural Northamptonshire? There are some beautiful villages that are very affordable and if you can get to Milton Keynes the virgin train line is only 30 mins so still good access to London (if you want this!).

I live in Northants and would recommend checking out villages such as olney, collingtree, althorp, the Bramptons (posh and quite ££ but definitely less than herts!) kislingbury, great houghton, grendon. If you're looking for a bigger town try maybe Towcester or if you're willing to go further north market harborough in leics?

If you really want more for your money then try the Midlands. Do you have to be so close to Herts? What is keeeping you nearby?

I couldn't move too far away as I'm very close to my mum and physically her health is declining (arthritis) My children's father also lives in herts so I wouldn't want to make it harder for them to see him or less frequent.
