Best lightbulb I can control with my phone?

Don’t have an Alexa or anything similar, just want a lightbulb I can dim/control/timer would be amazing but not important, with an app on my phone.

All the ones I find are talking about alexas, Phillips bridges and apple home

Argh! Help! Thank you

We have Phillips hue. We use with Google home or just with our phones.
We also have the sensor for it.
Really recommend them, even have one in our porch light.
Our entire home is 'smart' as my husband is very technical.
Lights are easy to use & even I can get them into the disco mode so must be easy!

Thank you!

Can I literally just buy the bulb and connect it to my phone or does it need something else?

I just need super basic and cheap-would rather buy a name brand like Phillips but not if I need to buy something to make it work iygwim

Thank you!

I don't think you can get a single bulb controllable from your phone. There are some in B&Q with a remote control - would that be enough?

Though I second @MagicKingdom, we've recently got a Phillips Hue (& google home) set and it's revolutionised my life to be able to have warm dim light in the evening and bright cooler light in the morning (and a sunrise effect to wake me up!).

IKEA do a similar but cheaper set with an app too.

We have Philips Hue and an Alexa. You will need a bridge though to link the light/Wi-Fi/phone up. We also have sensors through out like PP and they're fab. We also have dimmed setting so we have low light if we need to get up during the night, so we can see but not enough to wake us.

We have the TP-Link smart bulb which uses either the Kasa mobile app or Alexa. It's easy to use and never given any problems. Their smart plugs are even better. These bulbs are less expensive than the Phillips hue system.

Actually just realised, the house has a Nest thermostat, can that act as a bridge at all?

I have meross bulbs. You just need an app to use/set them up

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 18/05/2019 09:17

Oh, these are the worst! BF has a flic set in his bedroom and it never quite works - randomly changes colour combinations, turns on by itself in the middle of the night, won't work for me so I either get up and walk round to his switch or I sit in the dark! Bloody useless!

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 18/05/2019 09:18

Gosh, three exclamation marks. Can you tell I feel quite strongly about them?

GloriousGoosebumps · 18/05/2019 09:18

I should have added, there's no need for a bridge as the bulbs connect directly to the app/Alexa, so for £34.99 for the colour bulb or £29.99 for the least expensive white bulb you can be up and running quite cheaply. There is also a timer facility.
