Hello We are re-locating to Wales - around the Cardiff area. Would love to live in an area with some parks, green , countryside, sea. Budget £300,000 approx (3 bed ) . Any advice on areas please?

Barry Island is the closest nice sandy beach to Cardiff, and quite busy in the summer months (winter is mainly dog walkers). It's easily accessible by public transport as there are direct trains from Cardiff Central. Alternatively, you could live around Cardiff Bay, but it's a former dock not a beach.

If looking within inner Cardiff, and wanting big parks, consider places within proximity to the green "seam" that runs from Bute Park northwards (Pontcanna Fields, Blackweir Fields etc)

Can you give some further info on the sort of area you're after eg do you need good public transport links, good schools, proximity to the city centre or something else?

Roath, there’s a massive park, lake, conservatory with koi, but I think you’d need more than 300k if you want a decent size house round there. Dunno, I’d need to check prices.

Good public transport links would be great - the green 'seam' sounds interesting. If we live close to a train station there is no need to be so close to central Cardiff. Prefer streets with character rather than living on an estate or perhaps even a village... however used to living in cities and towns so don't know how we would adapt to village life.

Ok, my idea of prices is skewed due to living in London for years!

How about Whitchurch/Coryton in Cardiff? Its got a bit of a village feel, local shops, park, but you loads of buses or the train into the city centre, or you can cycle down the river (I used to do it in reverse as I lived in Maindy and worked in Whitchurch)

Do you want to live specifically in Cardiff? There are some nice areas around that you'd get more house for your money

PeggyIsInTheNarrative · 17/05/2019 22:23

Penarth? Sea, stoney beach, pier, parks

Dinys Powys?
Sully?
Roath Park area?

Used to live in Barry and it was nice.

If you want greenery Try the Rhondda Valley, you could get a literal mansion up there for 300k.

donajimena · 17/05/2019 22:25

Llandaf North? Budget will get you something nice its close to the river, parks good M4 links and a train station.

NomDeQwerty · 17/05/2019 22:41

Bit outside your budget but it's the best I can see on Rightmove around that price

Twinkled · 17/05/2019 22:46

No not specifically Cardiff WGC , further afield ideas very welcome. Whitchurch looks great as does Llandaf North - scanning Right Move and Google Maps. Penarth looks gorgeous too but looking at houses ( for 325,000 which is okay but then they need work doing too. Will have a look at Sully and Dinys Powys....

Cowbridge? Very very well heeled and you're paying for that, but lovely

Dinas Powys is a great choice. It has the common, some great pubs. The food at The Star is fabulous and not expensive. It has 2 train stations depending on which end you are, easy access to Cardiff and the Vale.

If you want to know more just ask, I lived there for most of my teen years and still have family and friends there

NancyJoan · 18/05/2019 08:34

Do you need schools?

StillIRise87 · 18/05/2019 08:35

Radyr, Whitchurch, Dinas Powys, Llandaff North, Pentyrch, would be in your price range. Canton is quite Boho and near to the city centre. Avoid the South Wales Valleys if you are English. There really isn't a welcome in the hillsides.

BBCK · 18/05/2019 08:41

Where do you need to commute to?

mimibunz · 18/05/2019 08:48

My in-laws are in Radyr, DH grew up. Very nice, transport links, easy drive to Cardiff, community spirit. Excellent music group!

Llareggub · 18/05/2019 08:52

I live in Swansea and travel to Cardiff a few times a week. Usually takes around an hour, depending on where I am going. You can look at the entire M4 corridor depending on your travel needs.

I'm a big fan of Porthcawl. Great comp there. You can get lots more for your money in Swansea.
