Need Help to Put Weight On

LoveRoyalBlood · 17/05/2019 19:53

I’m 48. Weigh 46 kgs & I’m 5’6”
I’ve always been slim (heaviest 9 1/2 stone)
3 kids
I do a manual job (cleaning) 10 hours a day

Tonight I’ve realised I’m just scrawny . My clothes (size 6) are just hanging off me.
I know I need to put on weight.
I work long hours but always have a cook from scratch dinner - last night slow cooked lamb shanks with couscous.
It’s during the day I struggle.
Breakfast: coffee with 1 sugar
I always take a banana

I need some easy to prep lunches. I’m not great with sandwiches as I get bored of them !

Milkshakes are your friend.

I either make my own or use Complan in either chocolate or banana or half and half of the two and drink between meals.

I lost a lot of weight when ill a few years ago and drinking milkshakes along with eating cheese omelettes got my appetite back and helped me gain weight.

Could you have leftover dinners for lunch? With a bit of salad, crusty bread and butter, coleslaw etc?

When my friend saw her GP because her DS was underweight, the GP recommended Mc~Donald's milkshakes.
Maybe try a slice of toast and butter/jam for breakfast.
Pasta salad for lunch.

My friend works in a nursing home and the patients get a cream and custard mixture to keep their weight up.

Complan is a high calorie shake.
My son has them as he us super skinny.
Also used to build up people who have been il and dropped weight

GP told me to drink raw egg, flour, milk and a banana together in a shake, if you can't stomach that then it's Complan.

Have you visited your gp? As they able to give you personalised advice rather than general. They may be able to prescribe a supplement for you to have as well as meals.

I try to eat every two hours. If I don't, my body sort of forgets I need food, and after a few days, I am gaunt.

So, porridge with banana and fruit for breakfast. Biscuit and coffee at 11am. Flask of soup, sandwich, cheese, apple at 1pm. Cup of tea, piece of toast at 3pm. Dinner at 6pm.

Little and often has worked best for me (have tried Complan etc, but this is best).

Try adding grated almond or other suppliments to your normal cooking. Also you can add another tablespoon of oil to your cooking.
Have you tried going to a dietitian? They can give you a menu plan that can help.
Lastly do you remember"a Mars a day helps you work rest and play"? Maybe that's the answer!

I’ve had to do serious weight gain on several occasions. Add nuts, cheese or butter to every dish. They are best at adding cals but not volume. Ben and Jerry’s and Hagen Das are amazingly high cal.
If eating scrambled eggs, omelette etc add more yolks than whites. Add double cream to porridge and custard. Serve veg buttered or roasted.
