Where do we want to go on holiday? (UK)

Hello,

Pregancy has made me completely unable to make decisions which isn't helping me try to organise a UK based break this summer.

Where do you reccommend?

For info, we'd like self catering, 2 adults, 2 kids who can share a room. Kids are 11 and 7.

We'd rather not be on a resort/holiday park and definitely don't want Centre Parcs. We'd be happy with a chalet or lodge type thing though and don't mind if there are a few all together. Just not too many.

We live in the Highlands of Scotland so would like somewhere with less rain and midges. We're happy for remote or more urban environments. We enjoy spending time in both. Probably not Scotland based tbh as we've spent lots of time up here.

There's no real budget at the moment.

Thanks for your help!

Kielder forest (Northumberland)? Admittedly only just not Scotland! The Northumberland coast is also beautiful.

North Yorkshire moors? You’ve got dalby forest, the beach, market towns and near to york so something to suit everyone. Plus being on the east coast in general pretty dry.

Northumberland is gorgeous. Not too far for you to travel. Fantastic beaches, loads of castles (Alnwick Castle is in Harry Potter as Hogwarts) lovely walks, lots of stuff to do - boats out to watch the seals and puffins, go crabbing or lobster catching, ride swing boats on the beach. You can go to Newcastle if you want some city life

Have you been to the East Neuk of Fife? Tons of nice holiday cottages of all shapes and sizes. Great beaches, plenty to do with tips to St Andrews and Dundee. Elie is my favourite.

The cottages at Keld Head Farm share a large enclosed garden with swings, slide, climbing frame, roundabout and sandpit. There's also an area for football & badminton, play shed with toy cars etc..., and an indoor games room.
The farm is 15 minutes walk from Pickering which has a good indoor pool (with flume and pirate-themed inflatable assault course) and a steam railway (the one used in Harry Potter).
It's less than 10 minutes drive from Flamingo Land (theme park and zoo), 15 minute drive from Dalby Forest (bike hire, 2 play areas, cafe, Go Ape) and half an hour from Whitby and Scarborough. My DC loved the train ride on the Harry Potter train, as they called it! We took the train to Whitby and they went crabbing and rockpooling. Whitby also has a surf school.
Very nearby there's a fantastic museum called Eden Camp. It's all about the war and it's very hands-on. My DC enjoyed the mock air raid and the junior assault course. www.edencamp.co.uk/visit/
We also spent a day in York (It took us 35 minutes to drive) and went to the Jorvik Viking museum, climbed the Minster, Castle Howard and walked the walls.

Thanks. There are some great ideas there.

We've spent a bit of time in Fife and it is lovely but I fancy something a wee bit different. Thanks though.

Northumberland or Yorkshire sound great, I'll have a look at Keld Head Farm, it sounds like somewhere we'd enjoy.😀

We went to Northumberland a couple of years ago and it was lovely. Lake District, Yorkshire and Derbyshire also nice. We live in Central Scotland so north of England is reasonably accessible to us. We often come up your way though Smile

I go to a wonderful apartment in the Peak District called Masson View. It's got plenty of space and it's a beautiful location! Lots of hills though which might be a pain depending on how far along you are with the pregnancy

Forest Holidays, run by the Forestry Commission have a lot of sites with cabins/lodges that have a great spec. We've stayed in Deerpark in Cornwall, might be a bit far for you but was a great base for exploring the area, and Keldy in North Yorkshire. Lovely walks, not too strenuous plenty options for day trips.
