Meals you cook, or get in for another day?

I am doing our online shop and to meet minimum delievery need to spend a bit more. I am concious of dates though and ending up with food going in the bin.
Do you have any meals or ingredients you get in that last ages? For example gammon always has a long date on so I am getting a joint of that. Any thing that you cook 2/3 days in advance that I could make during the week before it goes off and eat a few days later?
Thanks

I make chilli enough for two meals and that lasts a few days. Or start it as a bolognese one meal then just add kidney beans and some chilli flakes to turn it into chilli. Or make bigger batches of anything and then freeze. Or bulk buy staples like washing powder/toilet paper etc especially if currently discounted (I do this with dog food - when marked down I buy a lot). Tesco minimum is £40 which is no problem to reach for me!!

I always have halloumi and feta in the fridge as they have a long shelf life. We have halloumi fried with roasted veg and feta crumbled over roasted veg and chickpeas.

I also always have frozen fish and prawns, for a fish pie or Mediterranean style fish stew.

Any freezer space available? Sausages generally have a good date and can also be cooked cooled and then used again, bacon cashiers also have a long date compared to other fresh meat. I use thing like toilet roll - always going to be needed or tea and coffee, other toiletries, cleaning products, soft drinks, alcohol all depending on budget. Tinned goods also or dried pasta/rice.

I top up food orders with wine, which sounds bad but I put them aside as gifts, honest. Grin

Just use your freezer and buy the cheaper big packs of meat - I just divide into the right sizes in freezer bags. I always buy pasta, rice and tins in bulk too. Then there are usual toiletries and cleaning stuff which I buy in bulk when on offer. Loo roll I buy the bigger packet too.

could you get some tinned stuff eg tuna (used for sarnies/toasties/jacket spuds/pasta bake) pasta, tinned toms, baked beans etc?
We have a couple days of the week where we get home late and then have to go back out to activities so only have a short window to prepare and eat. i often do beans on toast or similar so handy to have some tins in.

Thank you. Not much freezer space at the moment although if I organised I would probably find more space.

Chilli and curry both keep and taste better next day. Also freeze well.
So does spag bol sauce or pomodoro sauce.
The famous MN roast chicken which then has masses of meat left on it for a risotto or chicken wraps next day.
Roast a leg of lamb and then have lamb and flatbreads with humous and salad next day.
Filled pasta with a jar of pesto and some baby tomatoes

We have fair few tinned bits and pasta in already. I was thinking more meal wise, things I could cook and put aside for another day.

Filled pasta

Grumpbum123 · 17/05/2019 11:21

The fresh stuff

Not much freezer space at the moment
^ in that case I think you should go through the freezer and meal plan, using up whatever is in there. Stock up on dry goods and toiletries etc to get the free delivery on your order.

My online shop always includes the ingredients for a mushy pea curry (2 tins of mushy peas, 1 tin of tomatoes, 1 tin of baked beans, 2 tbsps of curry powder, 1 tsp chilli). When I've got another shop due I just whizz up the curry sauce and add any veg in the fridge that needs using up. It's syn free on slimming world and much nicer than it sounds!

Thanks ladies! Managed to top it up with a few extra meals.
All done!
