What do you do if off sick?

Off work this week - have been unwell with depression and now on treatment but not really helping yet. Had been carrying on at work albeit with difficulty but spent most of last week there crying - so not in today.
I don’t know what to do with myself! Struggling to concentrate on anything so just staring miserably at work emails.

Well that’s the nature of depression isn’t it? If you could function you’d be at work. Just read a book or something hopefully the meds will kick in.

Go for a walk. It's not going to cure anything in the long term, but walking can have a positive effect on your mood.

That is the nature of depression, as pp said. Hours and days can go by with no sense of Doing anything or feeling that you should or could be doing anything. If you feel a bit better, short walks outside or short directed activities. I found simple recipes to bake, and that helped.

In your case I would do short term things.

Trying to conquer a mountain - even if its a positive one - is still a mountain.

But stepping off a kerb is achievable.

(in case that tortured analogy doesn't make sense, I mean instead of decluttering your entire house, just sit down with one single drawer of stuff and do that for now.)

Thanks all.
Tried to read a book but can’t concentrate and ended up in tears again.
Walk is a good idea.
Feeling very annoyed with myself and guilty for not being at work.

Oh, China. a hand hold here because I've been there.
I ended up off sick for six months, and it took about three months for the meds to kick in, so don't necessarily expect a quick fix.
Short walks, have a sympathetic friend round or meet for a cuppa and cake, try a magazine if you can't concentrate on a book, something on tv you don't have to concentrate too hard on such as a property programme, a bit of gardening, one of those art therapy books you colour in, a nap, a bath.
Try not to look at work emails.
Depression is crap, it really is.
