I don’t know how to change career

Literally, I don’t know how to go about doing it which sounds utterly ridiculous but there we go!

I’ve been a Nanny for 13 years, it’s literally the only job I’ve ever done. Whilst doing this, I’ve got myself a good set of transferable skills into PA work which I would really like to do, more virtual PA/Life Admin then office based if possible but I have no idea how to start, to build a client base, to get enough work that I can leave nannying (fully aware it will take time, if ever, to earn enough through this to leave nannying/another job but I’d like to try whilst I’ve still got nannying work until December)

Can anyone give me any pointers on how to go about this? I kind of fell into nannying when I was 17 and I’m now 31 and have never had to think about work and how to decide what I want and how to get it (very aware I’ve been v lucky!)

TIA

Do you actually want to be a PA or do you just want to stop nannying? You are still young enough to go to university and train into a profession.

I definitely want to stop nannying but really enjoy the life admin side of it, the PA work that’s has come into it and managing a household/people’s diaries so I do think it’s something I’d like to explore further.

I didn’t do particularly well at school and aside from childcare qualifications, I don’t have any others so would literally have to start from the bottom up to go to uni and although I’ve nothing but admiration for those that do, it just isn’t for me

Why not take a few sideways steps? For example I know someone who works at an after school club and breakfast club and does a part-time degree in between. Think about having a portfolio career - be a PA on the side on a tiny scale to get some experience/ qualifications. It’s how lots of people change career.

Have you looked at jobs on secsinthecity? I think it's the busiest website for PAs if you are near London. It might give you ideas on skills requested and what to put on your CV.

Thank you both, great ideas!
