Is it just me who thinks that wine that leaves your mouth feeling like it's coated in glycerine sounds vile?

Mmmmm 😋

I’ve had some expensive wines and champagne and yes, better than cheap plonk, but not 1000x nicer!

I prefer port and gin myself.

Anyway back to my five pound plonk :)

I had a lovely €3.80 a litre local plonk that didn’t even have a label. Of course it maybe been anti freeze.

But did it leave a coating in your mouth?

Sadly not.

I think I have something in the fridge that might though (dubious Marlborough).

There’s a documentary film on Netflix called Sour grapes that tells the story of a young man who managed to con millions out of wine people, selling them cheap crap.

Very enjoyable.

When I first saw this I thought 'woah' but then read that the bottle they actually ordered was still over 250 quid, so it's not like they ordered the house red!

I do think that more expensive wine tastes nicer, but I'm talking stuff that is like probably like £50 a bottle tops compared to Tesco box wine, so I really don't think I would be able to tell the difference between that and one that costs 4,500!

StealthPolarBear · 16/05/2019 20:44

Yes I was mildly jealous until I read that they'd spent most families' food budget for a fortnight. Realised then they're not just your average couple looking to spend between 9.99 and 12.99 on a bottle of red.

I used to know a chap who worked for a wine merchants and it was fashionable for overseas clients (where wine isn’t really the preferred drink) to buy expensive bottles as investments.

Occasionally they would take a bottle to drink - and it wasn’t unusual to for them to mix a bottle of wine worth £££ with cola or orange juice.

He swears he had seen it with his own eyes (and felt like crying). I said ‘as long as they enjoyed it’z
