ASDA now won't actually deliver to my front door.

Because I live up a flight of stairs. Hmm

According to the (lovely and helpful) delivery driver who ignored the policy they are now supposed to deliver to the front door, UNLESS the door is up a flight of stairs in which case they deliver to the bottom of the stairs. What's the point of that? Hmm the whole reason I get delivery is cause I'm not able to cart a full shop up the stairs. And what about disabled people who live in flats?

Yes I think that’s been their rule for a while - they refused even to bring up my groceries in the lift a while ago and said I had to go to the front door of the building.

I order from Ocado now instead.....

SneakyGremlins · 16/05/2019 19:27

It wasn't the rule a month ago when I last ordered. I only order from them as I can't usually afford a £40 minimum spend from the other supermarket Sad

I wonder if it’s just down to individual drivers then - the one I had was very adamant that they deliver to front door of the building, and when I checked that was the rule.

Redglitter · 16/05/2019 19:49

That's the exact reason I changed to Tesco. I lived in a flat & the rude & obnoxious Asda driver quite bluntly told me he was no longer taking groceries up to flats.

EvilMorty · 16/05/2019 19:53

In my flat I only ever had one driver take my shopping up and that was Morrison’s. I still use them now we are in a house, over every other supermarket delivery service because they can’t be faulted. Tesco’s were just flat out rude every time.

HogMother · 16/05/2019 20:00

Morrison’s are great in general I find. Don’t live in flat to comment on that, but they check the dates and can discount anything that is short dated or a bad substitute (and you get to keep it sometimes)

HPLikecraft · 16/05/2019 20:23

I usually use Tesco or Sainsbury's, both of whose delivery people I find friendly, helpful and obliging.
I used Asda once. There were two men who dumped everything on the doorstep. In crates and not in bags. I can't lift one of those crates, so I carried everything in, a couple of items at a time, while they stood out in the rain looking pissed off. It was a huge shop and I didn't exactly hurry Grin. It'd have taken a fraction of the time if they'd helped, and they'd have got going quickly and not got wet either.

Back to Tesco and Sains!

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/05/2019 20:24

Could you shop every two weeks for heavy stuff from Morrisons and carry your days to day bits.
Or try Iceland.

SneakyGremlins · 16/05/2019 20:26

I think I'll have to check it Iceland if this carries on Confused

Our Iceland, you go in and buy it, they keep it and deliver it to you later. You don’t buy it all online like the other ones

Can I just say to counter the stories of people complaining about Asda delivery staff that I've had tons of Asda deliveries both here and in another city and 90 per cent of the staff have been lovely. We lived in a bunch of flats and many times I've had delivery staff offer to carry the shopping to our door, particularly if DH wasn't there/visible. This was in a first floor flat without a lift and even a third floor flat without a lift. I've never let them though because always been fit and able to do it myself (apart from very heavily pregnant when always ensured DH was home to sort it) and don't want them to need to struggle unnecessarily. I would hope people who are able do it themselves so they can focus their energy on the people who can't.

SneakyGremlins · 16/05/2019 20:54

Really? See that'd be perfect because then I could get what's actually in stock..

You can shop online with iceland it doesn’t have out of stock items. If they let you order then it’s in stock.

CleanHonestGoals · 16/05/2019 22:33

My DH is a driver for Asda..he doesn't have to take it up to a flat door as like you said Asda states the front door to the block is enough ( it's been like that for years) but he always will. Even lugging it all up however many floors when the lift is broken. I think most of them would. They are under massive time pressure though so I often wish people would bear that in mind.
A 5 minute drop doesn't take into account a 18th floor flat etc.

yermawyabas · 16/05/2019 23:34

It's been that rule for a long time in my area. They deliver to the main door but not front door. That was 8 years ago they stopped in my area. Tesco and Iceland are the only ones that deliver to the front door.
