Hello! I know there have been threads about this before but I can't find them.

I work in the charity sector. I am currently off work with anxiety and depression. I have tidied my house, I am clean, I have clean laundry, I have eaten well and slept okay. I have made a plan (this has taken colossal mental effort) to do some exercise and found some classes to go to.

I still feel knackered and stressed and I think I need to laugh more.

Any suggestions for feel good films? Or things I can do that just bring joy? I am going to the seaside and city next week (part of getting confidence up to travel again).

Well done on taking action!
Exercise is def a big one.
If you're talking about finding something for right now you could do a calm wind - down type yoga video? Or if you want to laugh I highly recommend Brooklyn 99. Tricky with tv though, it's such a personal thing, one of the funny mummy blogger books? (Why mummy drinks/hurrah for gin etc) all very funny and you could download immediately on kindle...

What sort of comedy do you like? There's such a range.

Bridesmaids makes me laugh. Taskmaster on TV is great imo. Friends is a classic. You couldn't watch Paddington 1 or 2 without smiling.

Ricky Gervais podcast is old, but so so funny. A lot of people like the 'My dad wrote a porno' podcast, it's on my list but I haven't listened yet.

I find Shirley Hughes books incredibly uplifting in a crying because they're so sweet kind of way! They are children's books....but just so lovely! Dogger is great.

Watch Ghosts. Lovely, silly, feelgood BBC comedy.

Listen to podcasts. You can look under the ‘comedy’ category to find something to your taste, or listen to some old Desert Island Disc episodes or similar.

Have a ‘forest bath’. Honestly, I have anxiety, and if I can get into some woods it has an instant calming effect. Something about the light, the layers of sound, the different smells...just a sensory pleasure, but not in an overwhelming way.

Drawing or sketching. You don’t have to be good. I find just copying something makes me focus my mind in a way that’s like meditation - I can’t do actual meditation because my mind wanders, but if I can focus on something outside my thoughts, my mind gets a rest.

Gardening - has the same effect as drawing.

Yoga. An hour of yoga makes me feel like I’ve had a night’s sleep. If I miss my class I feel out of sorts all week. If you don’t fancy a class there are loads of free videos online.

Be near the sea. I find the rhythm and the sound of the waves really calms me.

I hope you’re feeling better soon Flowers

In terms of Yoga I'd really recommend Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube. There are loads of free videos and she's very soothing! She does yoga for anxiety and yoga for depression amongst many others.
