Does anybody ever get a second chance after a really bad job interview?

Dwelling on an interview that I had earlier this week and wondering if it's ruined my chances of ever being employed there or if they might consider my application the next time they're hiring. The job would've been life-changing for me, which I think is why I completely fell apart. It meant so much to me and I'd prepared so much that it became some massive thing in my mind. I didn't do anything inappropriate just came across as completely incompetent and like I'd dropped in from another planet with absolutely no idea what a job interview is.

I had an interview and totally slagged off the company- where it was going wrong etc. It was on of those ‘I’ve started so I best go on’ moments. 2 hours later they offered me the job on 38k, I laughed and said no. Several phone calls later they offered me 68k and I still turned it down (just outside London so the wages wasn’t worth it).

So you never know! Have you been told you haven’t got it?

Yeah. It was a sort of 'thanks for showing up' rejection. It was such a bad interview that I'm not sure I would apply for another post there, not sure I could face them again, but I really wanted the job and I know I could do the interview a million times better.

I had an interview where I drove to the city, got to the city with a good half hour/45 minutes to spare and then spent the next 50 minutes (no joke) trying and failing to find somewhere to park. It was a nightmare. Close to Christmas, there were events going on, and the place was packed. After some panicked phone calls I ended up about half an hour late having been allowed in one of their disabled spaces.

At that point I was beyond panic, having figured out I'd wrecked my chances already, so I just treated it like a practice and wasn't too surprised when I didn't hear back.

However, four months later I got an e-mail from them saying their original choice had moved departments and would I consider the job...?

I accepted. I'm still there three years later. Grin

That's great Smile The one positive of my interview was that I managed to get there in plenty of time but it just went majorly downhill from there.

I elbowed a child in the face and made them cry during an interview for a nanny job.

I’ve been with them 3 years now...Grin

However badly you stuffed up I'd be very surprised if they rule you out for any future jobs. They probably won't even recognise you in another interview. Keep trying, it'll come good next time (or the time after!)
