Help! Baby swallowed chunk of makeup sponge

I'm waiting for a call back from the GP.

In the meantime I'm freaking out! Can anybody reassure me? Picture below of the offending article with chunk taken out of it. I'm normally really careful to keep it out of her reach but she managed to get her hands on it and bite away before I realised. I feel awful and really guilty.

As long as it’s not lodged in an airway, I’m sure she’ll be fine. They swallow all sorts of random things. As long as she didn’t choke and it isn’t a battery or something sharp, it will just pass out the other end. My friends dc swallowed a whole handful of Christmas tinsel one year.

Mrsjayy · 15/05/2019 10:47

It looks more of a nibble than a chunk baby might just poop it out! Hopefully Dr rings back soon.

Freak out is when you catch your crawling dc enjoying a bowl of dried dcat food....
So I have heard anyway.

I should have said she's been absolutely fine since and is currently breastfeeding and napping peacefully.

My Dd loved a bit of go cat Blush

As a GP I wouldn't be too worried about that, OP. As long as she's fully swallowed it it should just pass through her.

Mrsjayy · 15/05/2019 10:51

My other Dd used to chew on the bath sponge as an older baby ! I think as long you are sure she swallowed it and it isn't lodged then she probably be fine.

Pinkyyy · 15/05/2019 10:53

I'd say she will be absolutely fine OP. As long as she stays fine in herself I wouldn't worry.

On a side note, the sponge looks ready for the bin.

How old is your baby? You've done the right thing contacting the GP for advice

My Dd loved a bit of go cat

DS liked to help feed his grandma's dog - spoon the Winalot into her bowl and then served gets to lick it

DS in his time has also eaten sponges, chalk, no less than four coins, a Lego, a Nerf dart, soil, sand, Playdoh, glitter, confetti, bird seed, an entire page of newspaper, a frozen fish finger, a whole green pepper including the stalk and seeds, and a candle.

No ill effects and I stopped ringing the GP after the third or fourth time.

Coins, magnets, batteries (especially those button batteries), and anything sharp needs to assessed at A&E but most everything else works its own way out.

Thanks for the reassurance and similar stories. We don't have a pet or I'm sure we'd have had several pet food incidents already!

AppropriateAdult, that made me feel much better, thank you.

Pinkyyy - yes....Blush

She's one.
