Waters broke 35+3 cervix closed

Hi

I came to pregnancy assessment unit a few hours ago as I was getting niggly pains and felt "damp" (have polydrominous, gestational diabetes and other medical problems) the midwife checked me and it's seems my waters broke but cervix is still shut. This is DC4. I was booked in for c section in 10days at 36+6 so have been admitted to hospital for steriods and anti biotics and iv insulin.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Hello, yes! I lost my waters at 35+3 (due to group b strep) I was admitted immediately and given steroids. Was given 2 days for things to start but they didn’t so was induced & ds2 was born at 35+5. He is now almost 11 years old and the biggest in his year. Good luck.

Not that early on.

But at 39 weeks my waters went and cervix remained tightly shut, despite mild and pathetic contractions every 2 mins for 6 hours.

He turned back to back when my waters went and wasn't pressing on my cervix, ergo there was no pressure so the contractions were doing nada.

Had to have a synth in drip. Took him 6 hours to turn then a few more hours and he was out.

Presumably they are bringing your section forward?

It was 36 hours before I was induced and 48 hours before (after waters breaking) that he was born.
We were fine though.

Btw if you are over 35, do you know you have to inject yourself for 10 days after wards with blood thinners??
This caught me by surprise.

Not me, but a relative. Her waters broke very early (about 28 weeks) and they admitted her to hospital for observation and she stayed there for several weeks. (Given steroids etc) Eventually she had the baby about 7 or 8 weeks premature. Obviously very nerve wracking for her as it was her first child, but she and baby were both fine. Baby was small but perfectly healthy. This was 20 years ago so policy may be different now.

Happened to me 32 years ago, baby born at 33 weeks 4 days. 7lb 2 oz no problems.

Well baby is now 6months old. A few days after my waters breaking I transferred to another hospital as the original was going to leave me until c section date and the care was terrible.
Baby was born a week after waters broke the second hospital had to do new referrals as it's easier with baby inside then out. he was born with sepsis and had to spend 4weeks in scbu,
The 2nd hospital was going to help do a complaint but I now have PTSD which isn't down to solely the birth but it never helped

I’m glad your baby is safe now, but it sounds as though you’ve had a terrible time. Take care of yourself.

minipie · 22/11/2019 12:33

Gosh how scary for you, I hope your baby is now well and you can get some help for the PTSD.

I’m surprised they let you go so long without inducing, I had two babies early at 34+0 and 36+6 and both times was told that after 34 weeks if your waters go they will not leave you more than a couple of says without inducing.

Please do pursue the complaint if you feel strong enough as the first hospital clearly needs to change their practices. I had an awful birth with my DD1 (and she has long term consequences SadAngry) I really wish I’d done a complaint, it feels too late now years later. Best wishes.

Have counselling for the PTSD if you’re able. It really can help. And congratulations on your little baby.
