Has anyone had a menopause start with virtually no symptoms?

I'm 48 and haven't had a period since at least January, possibly longer. Over the last 2 years my periods have been getting lighter and further apart. Ive done a pregnancy test this weekend and it's negative.

I have had no other symptoms at all. No hot flushes, no brain fog, no dryness, nothing. The only thing is some fatigue and I'm gaining a bit of weight round the middle - hence the pregnancy test. And my sex drive has tanked a bit. I only have one ovary the other was removed years ago due to a large cyst.

Could this be it? If so, am I likely to stay this lucky?

I had no symptoms apart from the occasional hot flush and some weight gain around my middle. Periods gradually got further apart over 3 years ( although I did have some 4-6 month gaps and then several in row) and now nothing for 2 years. I still get the very occasional hot flush.

Cheers. I guess you hear so many people saying what a bad time they had I assumed it was inevitable.

I have never been massively affected by hormones. Never had PMS or sickness in pregnancy, in fact I was hardly aware of the pregnancy at all until near the end, so I wonder if that's it?

My menopause came and went with literally no symptoms. Periods just stopped. Nothing else changed.

Interestingly, I only have one ovary too - not sure if that has anything to do with it. I feel very lucky when I listen to my friends list their variety of symptoms.

PorterBella · 13/05/2019 12:58

I had no symptoms at all, my periods just stopped and that was it.

Redshoeblueshoe · 13/05/2019 13:00

I know someone who had no symptoms.
All I can say is that you are very lucky.

My nan said it was like this for her too. My mum would say she was similar although we as family noticed she was more hormonal Grin However her sister had an awful time. I’m hoping I’m like my nan!

My point is op it could well that you had a lucky transition, I believe the doctor can confirm by blood test if you do wish.

My periods stopped over a year ago. I have put on some weight which may or may not be related. No hot flushes. An USS I had showed my ovaries have shrivelled up!
I have had a few forgetful episodes recently (walked away from the cash machine yesterday without taking the money - £50 - thank goodness dd was with me!) Am blaming menopause, preferable to very early onset dementia!

Pipandmum · 13/05/2019 14:12

No symptoms for me either. I’m 57 and I think I last had a period about six months ago. Feel very lucky!

I went through menopause in my mid forties. Had tiny hot flashes (about 45 seconds in length) at odd moments over about a 6 month period, and that was pretty much it. I was quite relieved, as my mother's menopausal symptoms were pretty awful. However, I gradually started putting on the pounds at that point, so that is something you may want to watch. (I wish that I had nipped that in the bud, so to speak, as I am quite overweight now.)

Bravelurker · 13/05/2019 15:28

Oh lurking from home, please say that the horror that I have been dreading for years isn't totally inevitable? I always think that when I hear of women with no symptoms are down playing it or are super human.
My mum was almost sectioned as she went so far off the rails Sad.

Sortyourownlifeout · 13/05/2019 16:02

Although my periods went wild for a while - increased frequency and heaviness - I had no other symptoms.

ProfessorofPerspective · 13/05/2019 16:31

No, no noticable symptoms here either! Put on some weight round my middle but I suspect that's more about biscuit eating!

StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/05/2019 16:33

Me too. A bit of trouble sleeping, the odd "warm" flush (mild enough for me to wonder if it was one) a period every 6 months for two years then they stopped. I was in my 40s too.
