Last week, nasty cold. The stuffy head and the sneezing have passed but it has moved into my chest, my lungs are burning and I have a horrible persistent cough. But my oxygen levels are ok. DH thinks I need to see a GP. I think I'll be told the standard 'It's a virus drink plenty of fluids and rest'. (Alas rest not an option!) I'm right aren't I.

People can be terribly ill with respiratory issues and still have a decent spo2. Trust me, they can be okay then just tank all of a sudden.

kaytee87 · 13/05/2019 11:26

My o2 levels were fine when I had pneumonia. Took 2 lots of antibiotics to shift it.

Pneumonia kills. I nearly died. It’s horrendous.

Kim Porter a young, wealthy and fit woman got the flu and then died from pneumonia.

You'd be irresponsible not to see your GP. An untreated bacterial infection can make you very ill. They can even be fatal. I get frequent chest infections and almost never have a fever.

I'll admit I'm surprised by the responses. If I don't feel better in the morning (no way I'll get an appointment now) I'll work from home and get an appointment tomorrow.

You don't KNOW you won't get an appointment OP. Are you in the UK, can you call the NHS line?

MaverickSnoopy · 13/05/2019 12:19

You might not get an appointment now for something non serious but for possible pneumonia you'd likely get an appointment. Although I appreciate that some areas are different to others, I believe all surgeries hold back emergency appointments even if they say they don't. I could be wrong of course. Some doctors will squeeze you in where an appointment doesn't exist.

You should phone now and see what they say at least. I've been there before with work and I know it feels impossible but this is your health.

StormTreader · 13/05/2019 12:21

Are you wheezing/rattling/popping when you breathe? That's usually my indicator for needing to go to the GP.

EKGEMS · 13/05/2019 18:08

You can still have severe respiratory issues with a perfect oxygen saturation. As a person with shitty lungs as you posted you are far more susceptible to a cold becoming bronchitis/pneumonia. (RN of 20+ years and asthma patient) you may be tired of going to the doctor it beats going to hospital via ambulance

ThisIsTheEndgame · 14/05/2019 10:44

Ok maybe I was wrong. The GP heard crackles in the lower lungs and has prescribed antibiotics.

Speak to a pharmacist and ask if you don't want to take up a GP appointment unnecessarily?

3luckystars · 14/05/2019 11:08

Good I'm.glad you went. My daughter had a low temp with pneumonia. I hope you feel better soon.

It's ok to go to the gp when you are sick.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 14/05/2019 13:18

I'm glad you've been seen. Hope you feel better soon (and manage to get some rest!)

FiremanKing · 14/05/2019 13:32

Get well soon
