How do I encourage them to do this, one in particular is a bit reluctant.
Thanks

What sort of affirmations? Confused

IncrediblySadToo · 12/05/2019 22:11

I’d leave them to be children.

howwudufeel · 12/05/2019 22:11

Leave them alone.

RaptorWhiskers · 12/05/2019 22:14

Stop trying to brainwash them and just let them be kids!

Drogosnextwife · 12/05/2019 22:14

Don't make them.

TheSpottedZebra · 12/05/2019 22:16

It sounds quite bonkers, but really, it's no different to getting children to pray , I spose.

Can they just repeat it or do they have to believe it?

ComicSans · 12/05/2019 22:19

I was around someone who tried to make me repeat witless positive affirmations when I was 14 or 15. It was incredibly irritating, and I cut contact.

Letthemysterybe · 12/05/2019 22:20

Why is it important to you that they say them?

PunkRockHippy · 12/05/2019 22:21

This sounds interestingly bonkers.
How old are the children?
What affirmations are you trying to get them to say?
Why?

Dillyson · 12/05/2019 22:23

Not sure I know what an affirmation is?

babysharkah · 12/05/2019 22:26

Affirmations of what? Or do you mean introductions?

Ellieboolou27 · 12/05/2019 22:30

I think it’s quite lovely if approached in the right way.
I often say to my kids things like, you are strong, you are beautiful, they sometimes repeat it back and I will affirm they are right.

I am working on one for myself....... I am losing weight Grin

CodenameVillanelle · 12/05/2019 22:30

Um don't?

SleepingStandingUp · 12/05/2019 22:31

Say what?

ComicSans · 12/05/2019 22:31

Affirmations are a New Age thing based on the idea that you are what you think — you repeat things like ‘My body is healthy and my soul is tranquil’ or ‘I am joyfully earning £500000 a year’ or ‘I am courageous and I stand up for myself’ ‘I relinquish old habits and form new, healthy ones’.

MrsExpo · 14/05/2019 21:08

How old are these kids?

Leave them alone Maybe they just don’t buy into all this “affirmation” nonesense.

MrsKCastle · 14/05/2019 21:13

I have never heard of this. It seems to me though, that if you believe this is something valuable and useful, your best bet is to model how you do it, and how it helps you. Kids don't like to be told to do something, but they do like to copy people they love and admire.
