What can I on a childfree night in London that doesn't cost a lot?

Hi, I would love some ideas.

I'm in London for the next few days childfree doing some training for work. Accommodation is paid for and expenses for meals. Money is a bit tight, so I don't want to spend a lot, but I would love to do or see something in the evenings to make the most of being in the capital (I live rurally in Northumberland most of the time).

Any good ideas?

Walk along the Southbank and a beer at one of the bars/National Theatre/National Film Theatre?

If you want to wet yourself laughing go and see 'A comedy about a bank robbery'. The cost varies massively depending which seat you pick. Bloody brilliant and totally releases endorphins.

See if any of the museums are doing late opening on the evenings you're there.

Prince Charles cinema Leicester Square

Another vote for the BFI

This is free and open til 7pm www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whats-on/exhibitions/hayward-gallery-art/kate-cooper

Then walk along the Southbank and maybe have dinner in Wahaca overlooking the Thames? Or browse the fabulous food market behind the Royal Festival Hall, open til 8pm www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whats-on/136558-southbank-centre-food-market-201819

Reduced Theatre Tickets officiallondontheatre.com/tkts/

Harrods is open til 9pm for a gawp, as is Selfridges.

Take a bus tour, using your oyster card or contactless and if you have already reached your cap going to and from your training it won't even cost you more money and you can just hop on and off at will. Sit on the top deck. Some good sightseeing routes: www.toptiplondon.com/sightseeing-tips/sightseeing-by-local-bus/

On Monday night, go to Brixton on the tube and by tickets at the Ritzy Cinema for £7 .
On any evening except Mondays (gah!) Explore the indoor markets of Brixton Village. brixtonmarket.net/brixton-village/

Tate Lates are brilliant but they're usually on Fridays, so perhaps you won't get the chance to wander round with wine whilst looking at both the art and the black clad young things attempting to pick each other up.

Might be worth seeing if there are any of the cheap tickets for The Globe still available (they sell out pretty quickly, but sometimes there's an odd one left)

Try The Londonist and Time Out for what's on listings

What sorts of things do you like to do?

SquirmOfEels · 12/05/2019 19:17

You couid see London from the Thames by going on the Thames Clipper (regular commuter service ) from Tate to Tate. (You can use Oyster, but I think fare is not included in daily cap).

Will you be by yourself or will colleagues be hanging out too?

Sundowners at the Coppa Club (near Tower of London, Thames-side pods) have to be booked weeks in advance, but they do great breakfasts.

Agree with many others, mooch round the South Bank.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/05/2019 19:22

Download today tix apps

Constant £15 last minute tickets on there

Some of the museums do late nights, no idea about this week.

Beechview · 12/05/2019 19:23

Comedy clubs
Ghost walk

Stompythedinosaur · 12/05/2019 20:05

Thanks for all the great ideas. I'd love to do a museum but I don't think any are open late in th4 next few days. I think a mooch along south bank is a really good call and I might have a look round Harrods too, so thanks for that suggestion!

If you’re into Shakespeare - the standing tickets can be as low as £5 (or used to be) for an evening performance

Walk along Whitehall gardens then through Victoria Embankment gardens then go across Waterloo bridge and then explore the Southbank. One of my favourite walks.
