Do you have carpet? Tiles? Vinyl?

We have engineered wood. It's fantastic. Easy to clean and looks good. Plus it's warmer than tiles.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 12/05/2019 09:39

We have wood flooring and I love it. Doesn't feel cold on bare feet, really easy to clean.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 12/05/2019 09:41

Bamboo flooring throughout

Pinkfizzy · 12/05/2019 09:42

Lino - I do mean lino, not LVT. No offgassing, beautiful wood like effect, warm under bare feet, glasses & plates don't shatter into a million shards on it Smile
The only con is that you need to use an independent experienced fitter as it is tricky, & if you are unlucky, you will get the shop selling it tell you that they have laid it in palaces, but omit to tell you that they let go those experienced fitters & send you somebody who uses YouTube! Bitter, moi?

woodcutbirds · 12/05/2019 09:44

Wood flooring. Kept trying to put a big rug down to make it look cosy but it never worked. Just looked messy and rucked up, so now it's plain flooring.

woodcutbirds · 12/05/2019 09:45

I'd love bamboo @JohnLapsleyParlabane. Is it warm?

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 12/05/2019 09:49

Amtico tiles in hall, cloakroom, kitchen/dining/ family room. Underfloor heating downstairs.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 12/05/2019 09:53

@woodcutbirds we think it is warm. Certainly it's nicer underfoot than the old laminate was and than the bathroom lino is

GOODCAT · 12/05/2019 09:54

Wood effect vinyl. Chosen for practicality but wish we had gone for wood.

Bluntness100 · 12/05/2019 09:57

Original oak floor boards. In the last house we had tiles and did put a rug under the dining table. No rug in this house though.

insideoutandback · 12/05/2019 10:01

Amtico, easy to clean, hard wearing and loads of choice

Thiswontendwell · 12/05/2019 10:06

Wood - beautiful oak parquet (not very 'glossy' which I know is normal with parquet) which I was so pleased with when I had it put in the kitchen/dining room that I have now got it extended into the living room (I don't have a hallway but if I did it would be there as well!). Its lovely to look at, warm, hardwearing, dead easy to clean/resistant to stains. It was obviously more expensive than carpet or vinyl but will last a lifetime.

beanaseireann · 12/05/2019 10:26

Wood. But next time it will be a very good laminate.
Wood is so difficult to keep nice.

Laniakea · 12/05/2019 10:33

We have floorboards (original & very draughty) downstairs apart from kitchen/diner where we have quarry tiles.

bewaretheidesofmarch · 12/05/2019 10:58

We have stone tiles (can't remember the type). Before we ordered I got samples of everything I liked and tested it with Ribena, wine, oil, tea/coffee etc - anything that might leave stains. These were the only ones that didn't mark. We did the test because the last tiles we put down looked awful within a couple of years. These have been down 10 years now and I still love them. Also recommend underfloor heating too!

Someone put marble in ours. Whoever thought that a good idea when almost any chemical that drops on it will permanently stain it wants shooting.
Nice in theory, in practice...ugh.

greathat · 12/05/2019 12:05

Travertine tiles with underfloor heating (so still warm when it's cold). Would have stone again with same type of heating but not travertine

Andonandonan · 12/05/2019 12:40

We have wood. It’s a kitchen / diner / family room so there’s a rug in the family bit. The wood is in the hallway too but we have carpet in the separate sitting room.

CakeNinja · 12/05/2019 12:50

Same as a pp, porcelain tiles (ours are 1m square dark grey) with underfloor heating.
Much as I love carpet, we don’t have it downstairs, only in bedrooms. Cleaning hard floors made me realise how much muck and dirt gets stomped in and out of our house (don’t care about shoes being on although mostly we take them off), so much easier to have them mopped and clean. We rarely use our dining area and table though because we built a large island in the middle of the kitchen part which we all sit up to and eat around.

beanaseireann · 12/05/2019 20:01

greathat
Why would you not use travertine again ?

Perch · 12/05/2019 20:47

Amtico all through downstairs, love it. Warm underfoot too.
