Trouble losing weight with hypothyroid

Just that really. Is really getting me down. I take 150 levothyroxime a day, blood levels have improved but I cannot lose weight. Have about three stone to lose and finding so hard. Admit lack of energy makes exercise hard but I don't massively overeat - by this i mean diet could be better but not horrendous. I was a small 12 ish before I put on in very short space of time so now 18 and I don't feel myself, am really down about it. Any tips would really be appreciated!

Cut out carbs and alcohol. It will fall off you. Sugar too. Don’t snack, don’t eat after 6 pm and drink loads of water . Walk at least an hour a day.

Thanks. Are you speaking from thyroid experience or general weightloss? Have read sugar is a trigger for thyroid.

I have Hashimotos and I feel your pain. Having similar struggle to lose weight although tracking calories on MFP helped me shift a stone. My metabolism is incredibly slow but I'm also on 150mg so unlikely to be able to up the thyroxine. Everything I read on dieting with hypo seems to advice high protein low carb / no sugar. My problem is that I love my wine and don't love high intensity exercise.

Yes I am hypothyroid too and lost 2 stone doing this easily. However I have put it back in again over time and need to do it again. Carbs and hypothyroid are a toxic mix, especially gluten. I think sometimes it’s nit how much you eat, it’s what you’re eating and when. I can’t tolerate bread anymore. Pasta makes me feel awful. Dairy isn’t great either. Lots of protein and veg is what’s needed, preferably organic.

You might find this helpful. I have a friend with Hashimotos who has read the book and followed the advice. It’s transformed her life.

The autoimmune / paleo diet is incredibly restrictive. It would certainly work but I know I couldn't stick to it long term. I want to eat less meat not more. I guess it's a question of how bothered you are about losing the weight 🤷🏽‍♀️

It’s not just about losing weight though. It’s about resetting your system so it is not inflamed and toxic. The idea is to do the diet for a month and then gradually re introduce foods to see what effect they have. Gluten is something many people with autoimmune or thyroid problems find very problematic though for reasons explained in the book
