Any fail safe ways to keep the baby awake in the car?

DS (8 months) loves a car nap. LOVES them. He will only not sleep if he’s just woken up.

I’m going back to work next week and will be picking him up and driving him home (25-30 mins) at around 5/5.30 which will be an absolute nightmare for bedtime if he sleeps.

Aside from loud singing which works for about 10 minutes, does anyone have any tips or tricks? I’m seriously considering letting him watch videos on the iPad in the hope it might keep him awake.

Open the windows. Cold air.

Activity arch could work. Something to keep him amused

My son is older (3) but we use the iPad if we're in the car at a time when he would fall asleep and he hasn't napped already. But sometimes even that doesn't work!
That's my only tip though, B&m do an iPad holder for about £4 that works really well.

We don’t own a TV so I guess it’s not like he’s having loads of screen time anyway.

Really cold air conditioning.

Oh dear when I go back in 6 months I will have the exact issue!! Let me know what works x x

olivesandolives · 11/05/2019 21:41

Definitely iPhone/iPad. Nursery rhymes on YouTube etc

RiddleyW · 11/05/2019 21:43

I’m afraid I never managed it! He’s fallen asleep with windows open, music blasting and biscuit in each hand.

Clarabellawilliamson · 11/05/2019 21:46

If you switch off the front airbag you could have him in the front with you and poke him periodically....?!

CostanzaG · 11/05/2019 21:49

Another vote for the iPad! Don't worry yourself about the screen time aspect....it's only an issue if the child isn't doing anything else! If he's at nursery he'll be getting plenty of other stimulation and exercise.

Thatsnotmyotter · 11/05/2019 22:01

Thanks Clarabella I hadn’t actually thought of that! Might be worth a try! At least it would be easier to keep an eye rather than having to keep glancing in my complicated system of mirrors!

iPad. Screen time is harmless so don't worry about that - look at recent articles on the topic.
