Police sets, lego or playmobil?

DS is 6 and a little bit “I want to be a policeman” obsessed. I’d really appreciate some ideas on which toy range is better value and likely to last, please. We have a lot of other lego sets and bits often go missing. Is playmobil any better? When did your kids grow out of this sort of toy?

Playmobil, 100%! My DC like both but (& it sounds like you've already found this for yourself) Lego only tends to last a few weeks max before bits go missing! Playmobil is such good value too...

Definitely team PMB here! Grin

My future policeman loves both but the playmobil definitely gets used more.
He prefers playing with the Lego sets that are just random bricks, and specific sets tend to be used for display only.

I will say that Playmobil is just as annoying for falling apart/bits going missing and doesn't fit inside a Kallax cube when built!

My DC 8+9 still play with the zoo and all it's attachments occasionally.

Another vote for playmobil - especially at 6, Lego is fiddly and YOU will end up building it!!

Thesearmsofmine · 11/05/2019 19:51

Yes Playmobil. We have both and the Lego police stuff ends up broken up and mixed in with all the other Lego.

Playmobil!

Here are some of my friends who would agree. Smile

We found the playmobil broke easily or puller apart. My ds is police obsessed too.

We found that Lego was great for the actual building, but the Playmobil was better for playing with, as the figures, vehicles etc are a bit bigger. There are some fiddly bits (guns, handcuffs etc) but ds actually enjoyed the attention to detail!

He also went through a police obsession, but for him it was when he was about 9-10 (at 6 he was obsessed with fire engines!)

He had a great police set from ELC which included handcuffs, a notebook etc, and he would go round arresting people and giving them the "You do not have to say anything" speech. Grin

Playmobil but, if you're buying the police station, super glue it together as it is very frustrating when it falls apart.

We have about 3 police stations and have to make one from the parts we have.

My boy is 9 and has gone from wanting to be a policeman to a fireman but he loves getting the police out. They are now referred to as "security". So, if him and his 10 year old sister are playing Playmobil families, he will have the police as security in a shop Grin

Flobalob · 12/05/2019 08:43

Yes, my boy still also loves playing police officers. He has proper decent walkie talkies and handcuffs to play police with.
Fire Station open days are good because they often have the police there to chat to and try on police uniforms.
Can you tell my boy has been emergency services obsessed since for the last 5 years?

NormanTheForeman · 12/05/2019 14:54

I don't think we would have got far with supergluing our police station together - ds liked taking his buildings apart and recombining them in different ways! Grin

One of the highlights of ds's 10th birthday was that we had to go to the police station as ds's dad got done for having too much snow on the car and he had to pay the fine.

While his dad was sorting it out, ds got talking to the police, who let him try on a policeman's helmet, photographed him and made him up an ID card!
