Those of you who have long length puffer coats which is the best value, I'm thinking of buying a either a Tommy Hilfiger or a Rab deep cover parka

Its 12 degrees in Glasgow. Surely this is the height of summer and not puffer jacket season?

Pizzaitalia88 · 11/05/2019 18:10

I'm looking for next winter, btw

Anything with a TH or Rab label on it won't be the best value...!

Nor will Jack Wolfskin. DH spent £140 on a down jacket for me and it was shit. Not enough down in it and i needed a hoodie underneath to keep me warm.

10 yrs ago i bought a fown jacket from Sports Direct. Karrimor for £100. Its still going strong!

Didrikson. My knee length one is super warm. Even the pockets are lined and keep my hands toasty.

Best value? I have a lovely Moncler one that looks brand new after many years of wear.

I also have an M&S one that was a fraction of the price but after two years is looking tired.

Best value doesn’t always mean price.

Have you tried Lands End?

Women's Commuter Down Coat Style # 487022

Women's Fur Hooded Maxi Down Coat Style # 502832

The versions of the long down coat I have (they seem to change each year) has a covered front placket. I.e, zip fastening with a flap with poppers which looks sleeker and keeps out the wind. Again, the versions I have have decent large, fleece lined pockets and an inner cuff to keep the wind from whistling up your sleeve plus removal hoods on a couple of styles. The last one I bought in 2017 I think had a non removal hood. They are all light and warm and wash & tumble dry really well (tennis balls in the dryer seems to help keep the down fluffed up). I tend to buy a size up as I like to wear a gilet (bought in Lands End sales) or a thick jumper or fleece underneath for really cold days. I think you can only buy online now. I've bought from them and Debenhams (who often have good deals) though I'm unsure how safe it is to order from Debenhams currently.

Tog 24, I am on my second, not because the first jacket didn't last or anything the first was destroyed by fire and I missed it so much I replaced it with almost the exact same coat.

Uniqlo is worth a look. They're waterproof too.

PlainVanilla · 11/05/2019 20:15

I have an original Puffa padded gilet, which I bought in about 1986, but only wear to do gardening now.
I bought a Burberry down jacket in 1998, which is still going strong and this year in the winter sales I got a lovely Woolrich down "coat" reduced by 40%.

Justkeeprollingalong · 11/05/2019 20:28

Uniqlo are very good.

Pizzaitalia88 · 11/05/2019 21:02

I've been looking at a Tommy Hilfiger coat in white, I know it's probably not the most sensible colour but it's my favourite, but will look at others also
