What can I take before an interview to calm my nerves?

I've got a bottle of Bach's remedy and have used it a couple of days and I don't feel any different at all. The interview is next week and I feel so nervous just thinking about it. I dread to think what I'll be like on the day!

I've read about propanolol but thats too late as I won't be able to get a prescription by then.

Ive been doing deep breathing and visualisation but I constantly have a knot in my stomach and will be glad when it's over.

Is there anything else I can try?

I'm a big advocate of 'power posing', the art of making some big shapes e.g. Wonder Woman or arms outstretched in the loos or at home before you go, then consciously adopt more 'open' body postures during the actual interview. This will trick your mind into thinking you are more relaxed than you are. I recommend Amy Cuddy's Ted talk on the subject. Also you could try really singing along to the radio if you are driving to the interview. This basically forces you to do deep breathing. I also think it's helpful to remember you can give yourself time to process and answer. I think we all have a natural desire to fill any pause, but if you use this well your answers will seem more considered and less rehearsed.

@Tollplaza I just wanted to wish you luck for tomorrow! I have my interview tomorrrow too. I've been so nervous all day and going over and over questions in my head. Now I'm just exhausted and can't think about it anymore tonight. I'm going to start on the Kalms and rescue remedy tonight. All the best - it'll soon be over!

I also have an interview next Tuesday. Underlying nerves but not too worried yet. I had been all psyched up for it a couple of weeks ago then it was cancelled at the last minute as a panel member was sick.

Will try kalms. All the best all of us with interviews coming up.

By the way, when I have been the interviewer in the past I was surprisingly nervous which I hadn't anticipated. Worth baring in mind.

I mean, I did the actual driving obviously - not the banana.

I just spat my tea out at work reading that Smile

SallyWD · 14/05/2019 10:15

@Tollplaza I find out today or tomorrow. I hope yours has gone well or goes well if you haven't had it. I had it at 9am took 2 doses of Kalms, lots of rescue remedy and ate a banana half an hour before! I was still a little jittery but def. calmer than usual.
