Which are scarier: books or films?

Last night I was rocking my DS back to sleep at 3am (fun times) in his nursery. All lights obviously off. He had nodded off and I was on my phone to kill some time to make sure he was in deep sleep before making a bid for freedom putting him back in his cot. I was on the internet and came across an article about It 2. There was a picture of Pennywise on the article so I saw it without even clicking on it and it freaked me out. I'm very visual- I can easily imagine all sorts of horror film characters coming round doors etc.
But I am weirdly drawn to the stories. I like the thrill I just cant deal with the images.
Is it worth trying reading them?! Or is that the stupidest idea known to man?

SO weird that you mentioned Pennywise because when I read the title of your thread, the first thought that popped in my head was...PENNYWISE!

And more specifically "It" the book. It was and is the most frightening book I've ever read...books are scarier and I've watched a lot of scary films.

Rats.
I'm masochistic. I watched the trailer (with the sound off!)

Films have sounds that make you jump or music like in Psycho and Jaws which help build the tension.

Books are waaaay scarier imo! Very very creepy. I think it being in your imagination makes it 10× scarier than watching someone else's 'vision' of it. I watched a clip of IT which depicted one of the most horrifying parts of the book to me and it did it no justice at all - in fact, it came off as almost comical. Definitely give some scary books a go - I like to read them on a weekend morning and then read something more relaxing before bed!

A good scary book is worse imo.

It's longer, so you can be immersed in it for days and it plays on your mind. Whilst a film ends, scary in the moment but then its over and with a film you can turn your head. With a book you have to keep reading!

Hm.
Maybe I'll stick with Philippa Gregory Grin
