Toddlers first shoes

DD has taken her first steps sso we are off to buy her some shoes. We'll go to Clark's to get her measured but have no idea of what type of style is best for her feet as she learns to walk.

What did your kids have as their first shoes?

We used Clark's first walkers but bought them online as their cheaper.
Shoesforkids often have a sale on Clark's shoes.
He only wore them when walking outside

We got DS these at Clark's but really regretted it, they weren't deep enough on the heel and were impossible to get on and wouldn't stay on either, definitely get something that you can loosen to get on and then tighten once they are on with either laces or Velcro, these just slipped on

We bought DS the roamer first walkers but lost one after a couple of weeks and got a "normal" pair in his size in Next and he was able to walk in them absolutely fine! The flexible soles in the first walkers are nice though

I went to an independent place first time and their advice was no shoes till they've been walking for 4 weeks so they get a but more established.

Do they advise shoes straight away now? It used to be longer barefoot the better?

FiremanKing · 11/05/2019 09:30

Mine wore soft shoes by Daisy Roots. I don’t think they are around anymore.

This kind of thing

The softer the better, and barefoot where possible. I'd recommend Bobux.

Backtowalkingaround · 11/05/2019 10:06

They still advise barefoot where possible but we went outside everyday and DS liked to take steps holding hands or hold on to fences and things until he was toddling everywhere and barefoot isn't ideal in a park or farmyard!

ImTheCaddy · 11/05/2019 10:08

I found start rite had a better selection for very little ones.

Jamesonwhite · 11/05/2019 10:55

Yes barefoot where possible but we are out and about a lot so want to protect her feet!

We bought cruising shoes from Start Rite, they are a lot softer than walkers.

Ideally you should be able to squeeze the shoe without too much pressure in one of your hands. You won't be able to do this with most Clarks shoes they sell as "walkers".

Google if you find an independent shoe shop, it is worth even driving a bit. We go to one which sells lots of brands, like Ricosta, Ecco or Spanish brands which I fastly prefer to Clarks.
