Downs screening harmony test

I had a phone call yesterday saying that after my 12 week scan and screening tests I was at a 1:90 risk for downs syndrome. Had a very emotional reaction last night but today feeling much more logical. We decided to opt for the private harmony test and we will get the results next week. My HCG levels were high and the nurse asked if I'd had much sickness - when I said it has been awful she said that could be why the HCG is high. This made me feel much better but still worried. Just wondered what other people's experiences have been like? Thanks :)

I had a harmony test after a higher risk 12 week scan than I would have liked. It put my mind at rest, as it is a yes / no result, rather than a risk ratio.

I had a harmony test after the 12 week scan came back with a high risk. Longest 2 weeks wait of my life but results came back as very low risk & we found out DS was a boy which really annoyed DD who was desperate for a sister.
Age & BMI can effect the result of the 12 week scan test which I wasn’t told at my scan. I was never likely to get a low risk result & would of had a Harmony test to begin with if I had of known

I wonder if quite a lot of women get the high risk result after the NHS screening or if it's only a few of us? Trying to stay positive. Glad you both found the harmony test a good option.

My result came out as a 1 in 15 chance, when I had something similar to the harmony test done it came out that the chance was one in a million. I feel for you, it's a difficult time.

With my first baby my odds from the NHS screening were 1:105 (I think). I was quite concerned as I was only 25 at the time so that was considered a fairly high risk for my age group. The scan measurements were fine it was the blood tests that made the risk higher as I had a very high hCG and low papp-a, we opted for the harmony test and recieved the results just under two weeks later. It came back as low risk and to us it was definitely worth getting because it put my mind at rest and I could try and enjoy the rest of my pregnancy. I also suffered with severe morning sickness due to elevated levels of hCG.
Good luck and please try not to worry as it is very likely that all is fine Flowers

I think you've misunderstood cause and effect. High beta-HCG is thought to cause morning sickness. Morning sickness doesn't cause your beta-HCG to be higher.

Age is one of the factors which is used to calculate the NHS screening result, so the older you are, the more likely you are to get a "high risk" result.

A 1 in 90 risk means there's an 89 in 90 chance your baby doesn't have Down's syndrome. So you're much more likely to get the all-clear than not!

One perk of having gone through the Harmony process is that you'll find out whether your baby is a boy or a girl Smile

Good point about the HCG. Babykoala1 it sounds like I have similar initial results to yours. I'm 29 so not young but not sure if considered old? The odds are definitely good but I'm generally a worrier!!
