Any insect experts out there? Anyone know what this is?

My daughter has been bitten BADLY several times & had a massive reaction to the bites.
I've sprayed insect killer everywhere and just found this dead creature in the window sill. It's GREEN in colour. Could this be the bastard that's been biting her?
We've been to A&E three times in two weeks ... I've never seen one of these - anyone know what it is?
Doctors baffled re her bites.

That's a lace wing.

They don't bite AFAIK

I hope you find out what is causing your DD so much trouble

LIZS · 09/05/2019 13:25

www.nationalinsectweek.co.uk/discover-insects/lacewings/common-green-lacewing

I don't think they bite. Found one in our house a few weeks ago.

Bird mites or bedbugs?

Whereabouts is she bitten? Legs, arms, elsewhere?

I’ve hust had a massive reaction to a bite in my leg - stupidly walked the dog through long grass near river with a bit of ankle exposed. I suspect horsefly. Grim.

DontCallMeShitley · 09/05/2019 13:49

Lacewings don't bite, and are beneficial to the garden, they eat aphids.

Most likely thing to bite are mozzies, you don't always see them, but they always seem to be around.

wolfgirl11 · 09/05/2019 13:55

Thanks all
Bites on legs and bottom only
Most got infected
Two abscesses which had to be drained.
Dog doesn't have fleas - he's white so v easy to spot then. He's had them b4 & daughter didn't ever react to bites.
Blitzing house with bug n flea spray & hoover
Horrible
Bites (some docs think bites and others don't & now she's being referred to infectious disease team) have small 'puss pimple' & then get big, red & v sore.
Any thoughts or similar experiences out there?

Spider bites!
Seriously though, DH had quite a bad bite on his thigh off a spider, abscesses and blew up like a little balloon. Been about three weeks and it’s still causing him trouble.

strawberrypenguin · 09/05/2019 14:00

Your picture is of a lace wing. Shame you killed it, completely harmless and they eat other bugs. Great for the garden too.

Have you got any false widow spiders in your area. I think they can give a nasty bite.

Chartreuser · 09/05/2019 14:02

I would say spider too. Or reaction to bedbug bites

Chartreuser · 09/05/2019 14:03

Or infected molluscum? DD had eczema and many of her molluscum spots got infected as you describe, any bites/spots that have not got infected?

wolfgirl11 · 09/05/2019 14:23

Chartreuser*
My daughter has eczema too....

wolfgirl11 · 09/05/2019 14:27

Chartreuser my daughter has eczema too and I've looked at images of infected molluscum. They all look quite different but Hers look like this (pic taken off internet)

OP posts:
wolfgirl11 · 09/05/2019 14:29

And then more raised when they get more infected....
Doctors don't think spider bite...
I didn't mean to kill the lacewing! Was spraying house liberally as do frustrated and upset!

raaaasss · 09/05/2019 19:43

could it be a harlequin ladybird..I read an article once about a body builder who got bitten by one and his leg swelled up. We suspected one bit a friend who also had a swollen leg and needed time off work.

Chartreuser · 09/05/2019 19:56

See that's how DDS looked but that's basically what a boil looks like. Are there any other spots/bites that aren't infected?

wolfgirl11 · 09/05/2019 22:48

Chartreuser yes a couple. They just seem to keep appearing.
Am I able to pm you? Wondering about your daughter's treatment etc as this sounds like a strong possibility.....

OP posts:
Chartreuser · 12/05/2019 21:16

Sorry I've just seen this. You are welcome to pm me but basically they only got infected once her body realised the molluscum was there and was trying to fight it. The eczema and them combined to make loads of infections, she was on oral fluconazole pretty much every other week and we were given hibiscrub to wash her (she was 4).

She has always a tendency to infection, more than once she was colonised with staph

GookledyGobb · 12/05/2019 21:21

Guttate psoriasis? Starts looking like bites/spots then turns into raised peeling patches

Hawkmoth · 12/05/2019 21:27

NOT spider bites. Christ. They bite once, if you squash them.

Could you have a bird nest that's shedding mites? An unusual occurrence but I have had this happen to me when a pigeon nested in an air vent near my desk at work.

Non insect more likely though.

HerculesMulligan · 12/05/2019 21:44

Google "blandford fly" - has your DD has been sitting on the ground near a river or stream?

Fuzzywig · 12/05/2019 21:50

Are they itchy? I think bites are normally itchy.

Willowtreecottage · 12/05/2019 22:42

My daughter got something like this... tiny blisters that turned into massive puffy pus infested spots!
Absolutely huge. On her legs / then on the top of her head. We never found out what they were and the doctor was not concerned!
I think it must have been a spider though...

wolfgirl11 · 12/05/2019 22:50

The antibiotics seem to be kicking in (she's been taking them since Weds) - I think it's what your daughter had Chartreuser
All so very horrible but also fingers crossed for this coming to an end.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 12/05/2019 22:50

Is there a double "bite mark"? The reaction sounds a bit like a horsefly bite. Horseflies are evil gits. They've got big jaws and they tear the skin. The bites hurt like buggery and go all hard and lumpy.

Ormally · 12/05/2019 23:34

Whatever bites me on the ankle or foot now, I tend to have an oversensitive reaction to. Unfortunately the moment I go out with no socks on (but trousers and shoes and on rare occasions even in thin tights) in early bug season, I seem to be very tasty. This happened after a bite got really infected and I had antibiotics a few years ago, I think it kind of affected everything that came after no matter what the insect.

I also feel quite dizzy off and on if I'm bitten, but with enough normal cream and antiseptic, can usually stave off the antibiotic development.
