If you wake up and think "ooh I feel like baking today" what's your go to?

Usually I do Welsh cakes, occasionally brownies. My dad's is always a fruitcake.

I'm getting it a lot at the minute where I wake up and think 'I fancy having a little potch in the kitchen this morning'.

I don't usually eat my own cakes, more so presently as I'm about a stone and a half into an intended 2 stone weightloss. I just really like baking but would love some inspiration.

I've also been reading the protestant tray bakes thread but as I'm C of E I'm a bit worried about getting smited ( I jest!)

What is your go to quick bake?

They are a bit more of a faff but I love making cherry Bakewells

Depends what’s in the garden. At the moment, rhubarb & ginger cake. In the autumn, Apple & cinnamon bread made with stoneground flour from the local windmill.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 09/05/2019 12:33

Lemon and lime drizzle
Boiled fruit cake
Welsh cakes
Gun and tonic drizzle
Bread pudding

My most frequent go-to bakes are:
Bara brith
Flapjacks
Victoria sponge
... As I will definitely have the ingredients in and I know my family will eat them.

If I've planned in advance I might try something new. Dh can be picky though and I don't want to have to eat his portion (well, I do actually but it wouldn't do much for my weight!)

BagofTeeth · 09/05/2019 12:44

Banana bread, flapjacks or sugar cookies

Fluffiest · 09/05/2019 12:50

I'm trying to bake/cook my way through my cookbook collection by doing a new recipe at least once every two weeks. It's adding more variety in to my week and I've discovered some new recipes to make more often.

Last week the recipe was strawberry and rhubarb muffins, my next one is a Parisian hot chocolate, very indulgent!

Biscuits. DS loves to cut out the shapes with his batman and dinosaur shaped cookie cutters.

MrsJonesAndMe · 09/05/2019 13:01

Brownies, scones, flapjacks, short bread, cupcakes, Victoria sponge, Pavlova Blush We love cakes

tardyheart · 09/05/2019 13:05

Foccacia Bread & Pizza
Flapjack
Guinness & Chocolate Cake
Banana Loaf, (I buy bananas for the fruit bowl ...all good intentions & I think they purposely get left so they go black & get turned into cake!)
Lemon Drizzle cake
Bakewell Tart

I sometimes get inspired from a magazine or telly and will make more complex things, but that is not every week.

Banana, date and walnut loaf. It’s my OH’s favourite and it’s one that I know will always turn out (I’m not a great baker). Later today I’m going to make a carrot and walnut cake. I also make a good apple cake.

EffYouSeeKaye · 09/05/2019 13:07

Currently making brownies and mini-egg cookie bars to use up some of the Easter eggs looking at me we have leftover.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/05/2019 13:10

When I feel like baking, I tend to make:
walnut-apple-raisin cake
"simple brownies"
chocolate chip muffins

Stravapalava · 09/05/2019 13:15

Brownies
Scones
Big chewy cookies
Oatcakes
Skillet cookies

Or, seeing what fruit needs using up & making a pie or clafoutis (which isn't really baking, I know, haha)

Stravapalava · 09/05/2019 13:16

Oh also, millionaire's shortbread / tiffin / rocky road
Or sponge traybakes

bibbitybobbityyhat · 09/05/2019 13:17

I almost never feel like this, sadly. Maybe once a year if that. But when I do, it always has to be really cheesey cheese scones!

My poor family - so rarely get something home baked it's like a major event in the house.

SweetPeaPods · 09/05/2019 13:20

Like tardyheart with the bananas here so it’s Mary berry’s banana loaf, every single week!

ClunkClick · 09/05/2019 13:31

Bread, soup, flapjacks and coffee and walnut cake if I feel like being kind to DH

TurtleStar · 09/05/2019 13:41

losenotloose · 09/05/2019 13:57

LaPufalina that really is the best brownie recipe, and I've tried many. Tried it for the first time this week!

I usually end up making:
Brownies
Apple cake
Fruit crumble.

I love baking and eating but ds2 seems to be getting a little bit chubby so I'm trying to bake less😥

LaPufalina · 09/05/2019 15:19

Lose I make them on request for charity bakes and birthdays, they're a bit famous! so bloody easy but amazing.

PlumCakeChica · 09/05/2019 15:27

Fairy cakes, Victoria sponge, chocolate cake and flapjacks.

Making a blueberry sour cream cake later for something different.

notacooldad · 09/05/2019 15:28

Paul Hollywood's tea loaf is decent.
