Ladies in your 30s, where do you buy your clothes?

I have always shopped cheaply, in Primark, New Look, Asos, that kind of thing. The odd Next, Topshop or Zara piece but that's it really. I'm a bit stuck at the minute though! Most places seem too young for me (and too small!) or a bit too old fashioned and granny. I'm also tired of buying disposable clothes that last a year or so and then are destroyed by washing or totally out of style.

I'm after some classic pieces that fit comfy and will last but also don't make me look too frumpy or cost too much. Is that too much to ask?? Possibly, but hopefully you can share with me your favourite brands/shops/items.

I'm 33 and most of my day to day wardrobe is New Look, Topshop, Oasis with a few bits from All Saints. I've got a couple of stripey tops and a raincoat from Joules.

I have a few dresses for work from Marks but think the majority of their stuff is too old. I don't like supermarket clothes, everything I ever see in Sainsbury's or Asda is always really frumpy.

I'm 39 and I reckon about 90% of my wardrobe is Primark. The rest is H&M, Zara and I don't buy jeans anywhere but River Island anymore.

I find M&S very 'old'. Also their sizes are huge. I'm a 6-8 and everything in there is too big for me. Same with Dorothy Perkins and Next, just feel too 'old' for me, although I did like the blue Emma Willis trouser suite from Next.

Thank you for suggestions!

A mixed bag here but a lot of shops I've never even tried so thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to check out Joules, & Other Stories, TK Maxx and some more I don't often check.

I agree with a PP about length and I'm finding my old favourites (New Look and others) are very short in the top and skirt and now I've had a few kids and my best days are probably behind me, I'm finding I want a bit of length to hide things but I'm not ready for the full frumpy look just yet.

33...Fat Face, Seasalt, Joules, Boden, Oasis, White Stuff..trying to go for just a few better quality bits as also got sick of buying loads of cheaper clothes. I actually now feel quite frumpy looking at the other posts as I used to shop at new look, top shop but now feel like they are too young for me 😫. Also saw an elderly lady in a dress I’d recently bought from Seasalt (she looked great) but made me think hmmm..

Chickenpie9 · 09/05/2019 22:55

H&M Gina Tricot Stradivarius M&S Abercrombie TK Maxx . I don’t spend a lot of money on clothes find it really hard to like what’s in shops at the moment and tend to live in fitted v neck t shirts and jeans at weekends and cardigans and camisoles with work trousers during the week . I usually return anything I get from ASOS . I’m short with a long torso and stumpy legs so I don’t really suit many styles

GinTimeAtHome · 09/05/2019 23:13

All my high end clothes (cos/Michael Kors/sea salt/coast etc) are from eBay. All for less than £15.

I like Sainsbury’s clothes but only ever buy in the sale with and extra % off which happens ever couple of months.

I’ve really gone off next....h&m. I don’t like new look!!

Also primark for my vest tops occasionally you can get some good bits but it’s very occasionally 🤷‍♀️

I also have a couple of tops from Joules (not very typical Joules tho)

I used to love Zara especially their jeans however (massive steroid weight gain) means I can’t get into them anymore.

Late 30s

Sainsburys, New Look, Dorothy Perkins.

Had a Fat Face/ White Stuff phase a few years ago but feel like those items are now aging and going mumsy.

Ivestoppedreadingthenews · 10/05/2019 00:31

33 & shop mostly in next.

Rainatnight · 10/05/2019 00:31

Okay so I’m only 27 but.. I have discovered supermarket clothes and Matalan recently. They have some lovely stuff (and I can buy DD stuff at the same time..) it depends on your style and budget but Tesco jeggings are amazing- I have them in a few shades. I get a bloated tummy and they are so comfy but look good too.

Primark imo are only good for basics (cardigans etc.) I think their statement pieces are just too poor quality. I really don’t think you need to spend loads of money these days to look nice (unless you want to spend of course!). Where I live there are some upmarket towns with amazing charity shops so I can find stuff I wouldn’t be able to afford super cheap. Guilt free shopping and fun too. Smile

I'm 39, and Apricot are a favourite as well as nice they are affordable. I also venture into Oasis.

Last month treated myself to a summery dress (with pockets! And would have been handy for BF had I not just finished) from Mango even though I sounded like my mother when I looked at the price tag and went "how much!!" This is why I like Apricot, dresses are more like £25 instead of £50 Grin

DinosApple · 10/05/2019 06:55

Warehouse. Cos. Hobbs. Mango. Occasionally H&M if it’s a nice shop. Next. Zara. Gap.

Pretty high street!

happychange · 10/05/2019 09:19

I love j crew
It's expensive but I rather buy quality rather than lots of throwaway clothes

I found I got overwhelmed by the amount of clothes I have and I just wear the same few pieces anyway

happypotamus · 10/05/2019 09:27

I am 37, very short, not interested in fashion and don't have much money.
I buy my clothes in New Look, H&M, Dorothy Perkins and Primark, but don't find much I like. I mostly just want jeans that fit very short legs,
plain long-sleeved tops, hoodies and the occasional nice dress.
If I had more money I would buy more in Fat Face, but I find myself liking less of their stuff. Also, retro shops if I could afford them but the one near me recently shut down.
