MX5! I'm on my second and I LOVE them. Super cheap to run, will go on forever and so so much fun to drive. Plus, the mk1 and mk2s are just really good looking.

Ninkaninus · 09/05/2019 10:12

Mine would be the new Mustang. Matt black.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
Need to start doing research.

I have a 2 seater convertable. Yes its fun etc. BUT be aware I can`t put it through a car wash due to the roof being a soft top. So hand car washing only. The roof has to be cleaned with special cleaner and then reproofed.

When I have my next car it`ll be a normal one!

FudgeBrownie2019 · 10/05/2019 07:27

I'd always wanted a little convertible so for my 30th DH bought me a Z3. It sits in the garage all winter looking lonely but as soon as summer kicks in, out he comes and he's such a fun car to use. Not practical at all, and we still have young-ish DC, but I love him regardless.

I drive a 4x4 the rest of the time (because of horses, rather than chelsea tractor style) so something tiny and zippy feels really fun in comparison.

JaneEyre07 · 10/05/2019 07:36

I had a "mum bus" for years, and got so fed up of driving them while DH had a hot hatch for himself.

So when we sold our last one, DH suggested that I could have a grown up car of my own Grin ..... I've got a Mini Cooper S and absolutely adore it. It's incredibly responsive to drive, and it's so much fun. Mine is grey with a black roof/mirrors/wheels package, and we upgraded the lights to LED and got an auto 9 speed box. I luffs it.

Mini Cooper s convertible. I start counting the years whenever I see one!

Kez200 · 10/05/2019 15:27

Mx5

limesoda · 10/05/2019 15:34

My MX5 was my favourite car ever (and DH is a total petrolhead so I’ve driven a few really fun cars).

Brabus Smart Roadster every time.

Loved my MX5 - damn you pregnancy......

Doobigetta · 10/05/2019 17:45

I have a hard top MX-5, and I love it.

Pros- there is nothing like driving with the roof down when the sun’s shining. Nothing. It’s powerful enough to be comfortable on motorways, but small enough not to be a pain to park. It was surprisingly cheap- I paid about 13k for it with 20,000 miles on the clock. And it’s beautiful and gets lots of admiring glances.

Cons- I find it embarrassing not to be able to give more than one person a lift- it feels as though I’m making crap excuses. The suspension is VERY hard- bumpy roads are horrible in it, and it’s quite noisy. And the doors are very long so you have to be careful getting in and out. But it’s so cool and it makes me really happy 😃

You should definitely get one!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 10/05/2019 18:20

In the spell between grown up children and grandchildren, I had two Audi TTs, a Mazda MX5 and a Mini Cooper S convertible.

The MX5 was the most fun to drive, the Audis gave me great credibility at work (teacher and the kids loved them) and the Mini was uncomfortable.

StrumpersPlunkett · 11/05/2019 10:19

These are fab ideas. Thank you

I've had to do the reverse and change my fun car to a sensible one

DP had always had the sensible car but injury resulted in him not being to drive for 6 months and I don't have the right license to drive his sensible car

Fun car was a TT and I loved it and miss it still a year on

I have to admit that my sensible car is much more practical for day to day life with DC/shopping/transporting mountain bikes etc. But It's Not Fun like my TT was

Baylis · 12/05/2019 00:02

I've just treated myself to a new Audi TT and I love it. I've had a few "fun" cars in the past - the TT definitely tops the list.

VimFuego101 · 12/05/2019 00:06

Mazda MX5s are absolute troopers. I have one with 250k miles on it and it's still going strong, even good in the snow.
