How can you get rid of 'woody' smell?

Had some bookshelves put up in dd's room yesterday. She has ASD and a strong sense of smell and couldn't sleep in her room last night as it smelt really woody.

She slept in the spare room and I left the windows open but the smell is still there today! Any ideas how I can get rid of it?

Is there a smell she likes better you can layer over the top of it?

Not really. She likes the smell of certain toiletries but just wants her room smelling of nothing at night.

Oust and febreeze are supposed to eliminate odours, but presumably you won't want to saturate the wood with those. You could rub an essential oil into it but that would just mask the smell. You might have to wait it out. Sad It's a good thing you have a spare bedroom.

I think you just need to keep airing the room and wait for it to die down.

You can't really, you just have to wait.

My husband's autistic and has had to get rid of furniture because of this.

What about if you oil the wood. Then put onions in the room to absorb the oil smell. It's really effective with paint.

Or leave the shelves in the garage to "air" for a couple of weeks.

Would beeswax polish be a more acceptable smell? I think it would possibly drown out and seal in the wood smell.

Thank you all. It is fading gradually. I'll try polishing her room later.
