Is there a push from NHS to have the coil? I just went to the drs to have mine removed, and they REALLY didn't want me to. Essentially tried everything to not get me to do it.

Well it’s quite a cost-effective option if you keep it in for long enough (high initial cost but minimal upkeep). It doesn’t require the same amount of monitoring as the pill. So they’ll try to get you to keep it. I hated mine though, I had to beg to have mine removed after a few weeks!

This is what has always put me off having one. Someone else gets to decide whether you keep it in your body and you end up having to beg to get it removed.

They've really tried to get Dd17 to have one, but she's flatly refused and has the patch.
I can see why they do, but it doesn't work for everyone.

I hated mine too but they were wonderful about it.

The removal was the first time I shouted "FUCK!!!!" involuntarily 😂😂🙈 only a brief moment of discomfort but it was intense 😂 and hurt way less than when it was inserted.

Bastard thing.

@Chancewouldbeafinethlng I did basically have to beg. I can see the logic of wanting women to have the coil I suppose. Less chance of failure etc. It just seemed like I really had to push, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable, almost like I was being unreasonable for asking.

Gp/fPlanning specialist is obliged to point out the pros and cons of long acting methods of contraception but it is absolutely down to the user whether they want to keep it in or not. I have been in the situation where a woman wants to convert from one form of contraception to another eg coil to implant. I might suggest keeping the coil in until the implant is fitted to avoid a contraception free interval or potentially return of bleeding. It is still up to the woman to make her choice.
The only push is to make sure that women are aware of their prions so that they can make the best choice for them. This is an improvement on the old days of pill after pill being filed out without a thought as to contraindications , interactions or lack of efficacy when compared with some of the long acting methods.

Prions=options !!
