Reporting parking on school zig zags

A parent has decided she is now parking outside the school zig zags right on the exit every single day with her engine running.
Who is the best person to report this to - 101 (I’ve taken a photo Grin) ?

I hate to tell you this but some zig zags outside schools are not legally enforceable - they are just advisory - unless they have additional signage. However, the zig zags are clearly there for good reason so the best you can do is ask the school to either a)police it, b)speak to the offender or c) put a note in the school newsletter telling people not to park there and why (appreciate that is stating the obvious but hey!).

Parking services at your local council should be able to help.

Headteacher is scared of everyone so don’t expect anything proactive from her.

I would start with the council. I wouldn't have thought the police have the resources to deal with it these days sadly.

stucknoue · 08/05/2019 15:44

If they are leaving their engine running then that is an offence - local council is best people to contact. Police can enforce but it is more about education then ticketing usually in conjunction with school and council

Local community police, you can find out who they are by ringing 101 and then give them a call, they'll likely pop down to the school at pick up and have a word.

Is she getting out of the car or sat behind the driving wheel engine running?

RomanyQueen1 · 08/05/2019 15:46

Call non emergency Police and also inform the HT, there should be a community Police liaison attached to the school.
This happened at one of my ds schools, they stopped it for a while by fining parents, but obviously, as soon as there was no Police presence it started again.

HappyGirl86 · 08/05/2019 15:49

Get in touch with the local police community support officer. They usually help with this sort of thing.

Ihatesundays · 08/05/2019 15:54

No she sits with her engine running.

Community police were out a few weeks ago to monitor just this!

Definitely report to non emergency police. The Highway Code says "you must not park"
It is a traffic offence and you're local council will only be able to deal with it if they are criminalised. It varies from Council to Council

I live next to a school, and over the last week have experienced some appalling parking by parents dropping off and picking up their kids.

Now, I KNOW I bought a house next to a school, and I KNOW that you have to expect busy periods, but over the last 5 schools days, my driveway has been blocked at drop off and pick up for at least 3 of the days which I find fucking infuriating inconvenient. We also have single white lines in places on our road to enable my neighbours to be able to get in and out of their driveways, and these are just parked over regardless.

I called the school yesterday and they have sent a parentmail out to the parents to remind them not to park across drives and white lines, but they shouldn't have to do this. They suggested if it continues, to call the neighbourhood policing team like they don't have enough on their plates! Or contact the council.

These people are just plain rude as far as I'm concerned. If I catch them, I ask them to move but that's not always possible.
