Looking to buy DS 2.5 some toys for the house (we have garden toys, books, duplo & craft bits).

What do your two year olds play with indoors?

Thanks!

Cars, especially pull back ones that can be chased.
Board books for him to look through.
Building blocks to make a tower and knock over.

Thiswayorthatway · 08/05/2019 16:37

Musical instruments - rain stick, tambourine, maracas

ThisIsTheEndgame · 08/05/2019 16:38

DS (2.2) loves any and all vehicles. Wooden train tracks, trackmaster Thomas, wooden cars, a big bus, small helicopter etc. He likes Duplo to make Duplo trains.

Train set, dolls/pram etc, magnetic fishing game, wooden peg puzzles, dinosaurs, play dough.

frazzledasarock · 08/05/2019 16:40

Building blocks, cars, shape sorters and books, binoculars, tea set (forces have to sit and have tea and goes oooh hot and shoves toast into our mouths, also has a stuffed monkey she loves and the baby walker with telephone on it she pretends to talk on the phone.

Aquamarine1029 · 08/05/2019 16:41

Animal figurines, wooden block set, legos, toy dinosaurs, instruments. Mine also LOVED their pop up play tent. I highly recommend getting one.

Whitelisbon · 08/05/2019 16:42

Wooden bricks.
Books.
Noisy stuff - musical instruments etc.
Books.
Balls - ball pit balls are amazing, and they float in the bath.
Cars, big chunky ones, especially pull back ones.
Books.
Crayons and reams of paper.

However, at the moment, my 3yo is playing with a pack of cards, and the 2 5yos are playing with some kitchen stuff (slotted spoon, whisk, wooden spoon type stuff) as they're making a magic spell to turn me into a toad.

Following - DD’s favourite thing is playing with bubbles in the sink, “helping” with gardening and decanting dried pasta from one container to another.

NerrSnerr · 08/05/2019 16:53

Mainly trains here and the Brio or Thomas track. Cars and trucks. He also likes the little shopping trolly he can push (and put cars or trains inside)

fieldofwheat · 08/05/2019 17:57

My 2.5 year old loves his toy kitchen which has pretend food and pans etc. Also has a toy crane which came with diggers etc which he loves. Anything with wheels seems to keep him amused really!

CaughtInAMouseTrap · 09/05/2019 14:59

Thank you everyone.
Going to add a few to the list!
Especially like the idea of a pop up play tent so I can fold it away later, he loves making dens.

After going to a friends house for a 'play date' I've realised he doesn't have a lot of age appropriate toys, he mainly plays with his older siblings stuff.

Happyland is good and usually floating around on fb groups or ebay second hand.
That or a doctors kit are favourites at the minute.

Phalarope · 09/05/2019 15:12

Train set with a battery powered train (sends it off piste to get stuck chuntering under the sofa which drives me insane but it gets a lot of love). Play kitchen (with lots of bits to scatter around house from various “meals”). Dolly and pushchair. Dressing up - mostly hats, sunglasses, superhero capes, handbags. Currently into jigsaws. Mostly into big sticks and rocks brought in to the house illicitly.

happydays00 · 09/05/2019 20:40

DD is obsessed with picnics, she loves it when we lie a blanket on the floor and she brings us all 'cake' and 'tea'. Someone bought her a picnic set plus basket from JoJo Maman and this is a firm favourite.

Other favourites: cars, vehicles, anything paw patrol related.
Books
Shopping trolley
Dolls and pram
Puzzles
Farm animals

riotlady · 09/05/2019 20:46

My DD is a bit younger but her toot toot garage gets played with daily

octonoughtcake3 · 09/05/2019 20:51

Dr set is the favourite toy in our house.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 09/05/2019 21:40

My DS loved his Duplo train set at that age. He used to call it his 'Gigolo train'Grin
It was something he played with for years and now I've been unable to get rid of as I'm emotionally attached to it

Brio was a hit here too.

NameChange30 · 09/05/2019 21:47

Teddies - he loves to line them up and put blankets on them
Toy pushchair - with or without doll or teddy inside - he likes to hook things onto the handles and push it around
Scramblebug - bought this about a year ago and he plays with it more now than he did then!
Puzzles (these hold his attention for ages)
Books - he reads them, arranges them, piles them up.... musical books are a favourite
Happyland toy bus - had a feeling this would be a bit as he's obsessed with real buses atm, and I was right
Duplo motorbike and ride - ditto above
He also has a train set which he enjoys playing with sometimes but I have a feeling he'll get more out of it when he's a bit older.

NameChange30 · 09/05/2019 21:48

Oh and play kitchen

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 09/05/2019 21:56

Wooden train track. Toy bin lorries with the beads from a threading bead set at the 'rubbish'. Toy kitchen, especially wooden cakes on a stand. Doctors set. Indoor ride on trike. Dolls, buggies and pretend nappy and potties

user27495824 · 09/05/2019 22:19

My youngest is 2.4. We have:
Basket musical instruments
Animal figures (plastic and wooden)
Train table and wooden track
Duplo
Puzzles
Indoor and outdoor slide
Basket of smaller wheeled toys
Basket of different balls
Grimms open ended wooden toys
Wobble board
Way to Play rubber road track
Kinetic sand
Play dough and accessories
Play kitchen and food
Some larger vehicles, wooden bus, plastic construction.
Dolls and wooden pram

Out of all of those, the most played with things are the slide (he loves to roll balls and wheeled toys down... so a home made ramp would do the same job for less space)
Wooden train set, play dough and sand (particularly the play doh extruder) a big wooden bus, a wooden pram (to push around and sit in himself) and orchard toys floor puzzles.

DulcieRay · 09/05/2019 22:26

Cars and other vehicles
Soft toys
Board books
Plastic things with buttons and lights
Wooden toys (train track, kitchen etc.)

LittleMy77 · 09/05/2019 22:31

Ikea do a great foldable tunnel and little tent thing which have lasted really well.

Also loved here, duplo, play doh and playdoh kits, crane, jigsaws (the large piece melissa & doug ones)

DrWhy · 09/05/2019 22:37

Jigsaw puzzles, toy kitchen with pans and food, more puzzles, trains and trainset, cars, balls, anything he can roll cars and balls down (we have some half drainpipe rigged up to make a chute for rolling things down), more puzzles, wooden blocks, peg people, small wooden farm and animals, more puzzles. For sitting still activities we have play dough, Lego (under supervision), felt tips and colouring books, sticker books.

llangennith · 09/05/2019 22:49

Anything playmobil. Especially all the people. Loves the playmobil people.
