Morning everyone! Ok, so last week I went for an interview with a company I worked for for 4 years. I liked the job but left because of family illness & had to care for a relative in another city. So it’s now a few years later and the job came up so I applied. Got an interview 😊 .... was in waiting room ( far end) and you could hear every word said in the interview room by the previous interviewee!!! It put me on edge. By time I went in I was a nervous wreck. 😖Anyway yesterday I got a call to say I wasn’t confident enough... what would you guys do???? Thanks.

I’m not sure there’s anything you can do except move on. Are you thinking of asking for a second interview?

Mitso · 08/05/2019 06:15

No but maybe I should tell them.

I don't think it would make any difference to be honest. They might feel you should be confident enough regardless of who could hear you. However, I would find that very off-putting too.

I understand it is really disappointing for you, but there is nothing you can really do as the decision has already been made.

I'd tell them because it's polite to let them know this room can't be used for confidential discussions and leave it at that, after all it was the same for most of the candidates.

Eek, totally understandable, makes me anxious just thinking about it!! Sorry you missed out this time.

Bad that you heard everything. Yes offputting. But I hope I wouldn't have let that put me off. I would have taken s moment to compose myself before I went in. Maybe you do need to address your confidence.

Yeah that would put me off. I once went to an interview for an OT position and turned up early. Another candidate was waiting and she proudly told me that she already worked there as the OT assistant. Then half way through her interview the fire alarm went off and she came out with the interviewers laughing and joking and it was so off putting. Admittedly I will never know for certain if she got the job but I certainly didn’t and the NHS is notorious for having preferred candidates.

I don't think there is anything to be gained by contacting them. I interview a lot as part of my role and would find it odd if someone contacted me to say they had been put off as the interview room was not sound proof.

Thanks everyone! Left it for now...
