DS gets a lot of stomach problems...

My 8 year old DS seems to suffer with d&v more frequently than any other children I know. He has ASD and I was talking to a lady today who said those on the spectrum are more susceptible to stomach issues due to more palpable intestines.

I can't find anything solid to back this up online. Is she talking bollocks or is there some truth in this?

Bollocks. In my sample size of 1.
I'd check he's washing hands properly after toilet, before meals etc.

I’ve not heard that but I did read something about the link between intolerances and asd. There’s quite an in depth book about it, I think it’s called the GAPS diet or something like that

Could it be anxiety?

There is a link between gut issues and ASD. I would second hand washing advice and also get him on a good quality probiotic. Nutriwest and cytoplan both do our friendly ones

No I have been hearing it to. Although I thought more to do with constipation than D&V. Prebiotics can assist with things like this though. Not a cure all. But after bouts of illness a couple of weeks of these to help gut return to normal and calm down.

However always best to double check hygiene. Or even if his is good are there others whose isn't and he is touching handles etc after they haven't washed hands? So needs to be more careful?

And you can always check with your childs gp to incase they need to investigate.

Thanks for the replies. (Sorry I can't check back to tag as I'm on the app)

Yes could be due to anxiety I suppose... he never seems unwell before he vomits, whereas with my NT DD, I know she's going to be sick as she's poorly beforehand.

He's in a special needs class within a mainstream school, and they are all very close so, while his own hygiene is very good (bordering on obsessive), there's a good chance others might not be.

He has a very poor diet due to sensory issues so that could be a factor too I guess.

I have heard that before, but no source.
