Maternity wedding guest dress

I’m really drawing a blank on finding a dress for a wedding in a few weeks. I’m a pre-pregnancy size 16/18 so even more limited as a lot of ranges only go up to size 16 which is probably not going to be quite big enough.

I don’t like high neck, have big boobs and need to be able to wear a bra (why are so many maternity dresses off shoulder?!) and pastel colours tend to wash me out.

Ideally I’d like a maxi dress or something that falls just below the knee (I’m 5’8). I’d like the option to wear flats as I’ll be 30 weeks and struggle in heels at the best of times. Proper midis (ie mid-calf) are possibly a dubious length on me as I’ve not got the slimmest legs.

Any ideas where to look, oh wise mumsnetters? I’ve trawled ASOS, seraphine, Dorothy Perkins, next, topshop, new look, Zara. The only real options I’ve found are on Tiffany Rose but I’ve never shopped from there before.

Have you tried hiring something, its been a long time since I did this but I hired a lovely evening dress once. I had a quick google and there are definitely still companies that do this. Good luck.

Thanks. Debenhams is all just concessions of shops I’ve already looked at, unfortunately.

Haven’t looked into hiring. Will have a google.

I got a lovely lace dress for a wedding from a website called mamalicious (ridiculous name). And it was only £40 so even better! Not sure what size they go up to.

Think this one covers all your stipulations but there is this one which is pretty and this one which is a bit more dressy

A friend of mine makes Tiffany Rose maternity wear, she sometimes puts photos on Facebook, it looks lovely, I have no idea of the cost though.

The chi chi dress isn’t maternity so will ride up loads at the front with a 30 week baby bump underneath 🙈

Isabella Oliver all seems to be more casual/workwear. The only occasion dresses are either high neck or off shoulder which won’t work sadly.

Had looked at mamalicious before. The sizing isn’t all that clear - it’s all on measurements and not aligned to ‘standard’ uk sizing.

If it helps I'm normally a size 8 on top and 10 on bottom and a small from mamalicious fitted well. I was 30 weeks so had probably put on the best part of 2 stone by then. I can't remember exactly but I think they might do free returns.

I got a lovely maternity dress from ASOS a few years ago. Not sure about sizes though

There's some nice midi dresses on here:

I sound like a similar build to you (same gripes around needing a proper bra and all these off the shoulder ones!)

I find the more bodycon ones to be more flattering on me otherwise I look a bit like I'm wearing a tent!

I have this one for a work event and really like it (although I'm sure it's navy not black?!)

eBay is great for dressy maternity wear as it’s usually only worn once or twice.

This one might do a job: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tiffany-Rose-Maternity-Lucia-Gown-Windsor-Blue-Size-5-UK-16-18/223506344924?hash=item340a042bdc%3Ag%3AWvYAAOSw1YRc0Bmb&LH_Auction=1

@aimily have you bought from Tiffany Rose before? I like some of their pieces but I don’t know anyone who has bought from them to vouch for their stuff.

Oh I also very very nearly hired a dress from belles and babes. The lady who runs it is LOVELY and I was able to get them sent to try on before I decided.

@MummaGiles it's OK, not wonderful but was only £30 so wasn't expecting anything amazing.

I wear it with a maternity underwear slip (from amazon) underneath which makes me me feel more held in.

Try bravissumo I went to a wedding 4 days overdue. I have a purple maxi dress I have worn pre pregnancy but it's Jersey so just stretched over my bump. I felt quite nice considering. If your in lancs if happily lend. X
