Applied for a job that im really hopeful for. Only i have fairly regular hospital appointments (every 12-16 weeks).

This is going to stop me getting the job isnt it 🙄

Is whatever you are attending for classed as a disability

What role have you applied for? A teacher?

You might be better posting on the staff room board.

How much say do you get in when the appointments are?
Schools have breaks every 6-7 weeks, so if you timed them, you could fit in appointments in holiday / half terms?

Its not a teacher - a floating T.A.. so not stuck to one child or set of children.

I can rearrange appointments so will try and get them in holidays where possible. It is a disibility yes. I can lead a usually normal life but need a blood test and ultrasound every 12-16 weeks. Blood test is easy as my surgery opens at 7am purely for blood tests - the ultrasound not so easy.

It wouldn't stop me employing you, in fact I have employed TAs with a disability more than once. I would expect you to try and get your appointments in holiday time, but understand that this isn't always possible.
Go for it!

DobbysLeftSock · 07/05/2019 14:15

We dont go!

Well, sometimes. Generally though so long as there isn't the option to have the appt out of school hours, you should just be able to fill in an absence request form and get the time off. As a teacher I've had this paid but not sure if the same applies as a TA. You are definitely expected to try to get the appts in holidays / later in the day wherever possible though.

My friend is a TA, has lots of hospital appointments for Crohn’s disease. She’s never had any problem attending them.

Do not mention the appointments during your interview.

Justanothernamechange2 · 07/05/2019 14:45

Thanks for the replies - hopefully it wont impact me too much.
I can be in and out the hospital and nearly home in 20mins on ultrasound days because its so routine, so ill do everything in my power to have the appointments out of term time.
My current employer is so relaxed shes almost horizontal, so im a bit nervous about going into a strict workplace.
This job would be so so ideal though.
Im off to apply.. thank you!

You'll probably be fine. I disclosed at interview I needed a day off every 12 weeks for haematology and it wasn't an issue (not school staff though!)
